You are a pirate, no matter how you put it, you steal and you are a criminal, there is no point of view in which this changes.

You are a pirate, you steal, pillage, kill... It is not the same as fighting to protect others. It is not the same as fighting to protect a way of life... My colleagues, my friends... They all fought with honor to the bitter end, for a cause that was already lost, ++

I've seen all of that firsthand, except if you fought for a corrupt government, that is on you, I fought to keep mine safe from influences that would seek our way of life destroyed. Others wanted us to bend our knees and force us in their way, we said no, and we paid a price for that.

I fought to protect the interests of my government. Again, this was loyalty, and I did on the worst time possible too, we all fought to the death even after our government fell. [Very sad look on her face now, because the 'we' did not include herself.]

All things I could say the same from my point of view, all I did was kill those who would try and change that which the bakufu fought for.

So for you, their choice of what they did with their freedom is deserving of death. Just like what I use to do then.

How is stealing protecting freedom of all people? What about the ones you would have to kill in order to steal from the rich? Those who are just as poor as any other civilian, just happen to have a job in which they end up in your sight? Are their freedom being protected too?

Loyalty and honor isn't something the state provides you, is something you give to the state. Sweat and blood to keep peace and order. To draw a sword for a cause bigger than you.

A land that allows pirates to do what they wish will never be free. Scraps? There is this thing called loyalty and honor, but I do not expect a sea bandit to understand it.

I am in no position to discuss who is deserving of what authority, my job was always to enforce said authority. Also what kind of bandit infested land would make piracy something legal by law?...

The difference is that kings and queens have the authority to do so.

It is still criminal, no matter who you are targeting or if it is at land or at sea.

And what would the difference be? Both criminals.
