For all the people who have bought in 100 percent to this supposed "AI revolution" we're in the middle of: don't you think we'd be seeing 10x to 20x+ gains in productivity like they try to say is happening? Wouldn't prices come down by 10x to 20x+? Indeed, the opposite is happening.

When I was a kid and would see visualizations of the future in movies or TV, I would think "wow, awesome, look how cool that is" was told how much cleaner the environment would be. Worth considering that software has had a giant influx of developers for the past 25+ years straight, often on an exponential rate of increase. Recent conversations I've had point to a conclusion for the tech job market: after a steep drop in 2023 things are slowly building back up energy. And, "non-technical architects/BAs" have not fared well over more tech savvy, skilled engineers. Software that actually works = more critical than ever.

I notice my feed basically never has new programmers talking about things they have learned or asking questions anymore. Are we past that? Are people too embarrassed by it? Is the algorithm burying this stuff for AI hype? It's kind of interesting that it looks nothing like even 3 or 4 years ago.

The games industry needs a lot of things but included in the list is a new set of investors and leaders. Not many studios I'd want to work at and that list was much bigger in the late 2000s. Meanwhile, indies continue to forge their own way as giant publishers fail to learn from their mistakes.

I have an unpublished article about my first decade in software, and it's in part because it states names of people and companies who were scummy, incompetent, or other negative things to me. For now, I'll instead say: you're always better than sticking around and being mistreated - just leave.

I've had even friends say that it wasn't the best business decision to abandon the Unity game engine to build a new one. But do you notice how the Unity evangelism that used to exist seems to be gone now? No one seems to be enthusiastically talking about their engine anymore.

Have had trouble getting enough time/energy to work on Kalling Kingdom lately but noticed today that between porting the game out of Unity into the new engine and the new engine itself I've passed over 10,000 lines of code - a nice milestone. Lots more to do and I'm putting in more hours this week!
