Yesterday, I announced the active development of NodeBake.com, a new app dev platform I'm working on. Short term, it'll provide an easier way to work with PostgreSQL. In the long term, the platform seeks to compete with major platforms, fusing 'game engine level performance' with business logic.

The people who are confused about whether Salesforce was ever "anything more than a database" should go visit their local dev team. I think about years spent writing complex code to number crunch, sync with other systems, distribute data across trees... shows how we're all spending our time, no?

So, what's happening? Are people actually excited about AI agents interacting with the Salesforce database or have we just given up on the hope of having a good UI?

Instant page loading times are great but they're way better when they're in *your* app or website. That's what I'm working on now. 😎

If you have a "doubling of productivity" but your error rate also doubles - then it sounds like you haven't actually doubled productivity.

For all the people who have bought in 100 percent to this supposed "AI revolution" we're in the middle of: don't you think we'd be seeing 10x to 20x+ gains in productivity like they try to say is happening? Wouldn't prices come down by 10x to 20x+? Indeed, the opposite is happening.

For those who are experienced programmers, what do you feel are the biggest recent advancements in technology broadly right now? Who are your influences, or what ideas are you looking into more deeply right now?

When I was a kid and would see visualizations of the future in movies or TV, I would think "wow, awesome, look how cool that is" was told how much cleaner the environment would be. Now I'm an adult and see people turn down EVs, solar panels, or batteries because ew, yucky, "I don't like that color".

Worth considering that software has had a giant influx of developers for the past 25+ years straight, often on an exponential rate of increase. Suddenly it's not all the programmers who are driving "rate of change", it's AI. Yeah, ok - maybe it is the tens of millions of people now writing code too.

Recent conversations I've had point to a conclusion for the tech job market: after a steep drop in 2023 things are slowly building back up energy. And, "non-technical architects/BAs" have not fared well over more tech savvy, skilled engineers. Software that actually works = more critical than ever.

I notice my feed basically never has new programmers talking about things they have learned or asking questions anymore. Are we past that? Are people too embarrassed by it? Is the algorithm burying this stuff for AI hype? It's kind of interesting that it looks nothing like even 3 or 4 years ago.

For the people who keep comparing AI to the internet and electricity as the next big emerging technology that will reshape the world: imagine if the internet didn't return your data a chunk of the time accurately. Imagine if electricity only lit up lightbulbs sometimes. These are different things.

The games industry needs a lot of things but included in the list is a new set of investors and leaders. Not many studios I'd want to work at and that list was much bigger in the late 2000s. Meanwhile, indies continue to forge their own way as giant publishers fail to learn from their mistakes.

Real-time strategy games teach you a lot about the world: complex systems thinking, economics, war, maybe even a little sprinkling of diplomacy.
