A rare Essex wildmen on the roof at the Church of St John the Baptist and Our Lady at Thaxted. From the street you can just see thst he's carrying a club. Apparently carved by the same artist who did some of Suffolk's wildmen - All Saints, Sudbury? Sibton?

Report just in - black leopard seen back in August 2024 at night in headlights on the A145 road near Brampton, #Suffolk. "Sloped thick tail... Rosettes were lightly visible in glare of car lights.” Height: 70cm at hip height, scaled from nearby road sign. Seen at a distance of 2m away for 5 seconds.

I interviewed the witness who saw a a spotted big cat with "dark, circular ring markings" at Great Barton on 05/05/2026 and ran some photos of known big cats and wildcats past them. They said it most closely resembled at snow leopard.

Report of a big cat seen in Great Barton, #Suffolk on 05/05/26. "Fawn/mid-brown.. dark circular ring markings... approx 2-3 times the size of a domestic cat.” Length at least 50-60cm. Seen from 2 metres away for about 5 seconds. It sprang onto the top of a 6ft fence.

Here, with permission from the copyright-holder, is a photo of the muntjac carcass found in the Ufford (#Suffolk) area on 07/02/26. Witness returned the following day and found it been predated on some more. This follows a "lynx-like" big cat seen nearby by a different witness on 31/01/26.
