Pittsburgh Equality Center Launches Little Queer Libraries at Five Community Locations
The Pittsburgh Equality Center has launched a new Little Queer Libraries initiative, placing LGBTQ+ books and resources at five locations throughout the region. Modeled after the Little Free Library concept, the project offers free access to books, zines, and educational materials focused on LGBTQ+ experiences. Organizers say the goal is to increase access to queer literature at a time when LGBTQ+ books continue to face challenges and removal efforts in schools and libraries across the country.

Pittsburghâs Biker Chicks Keep the Vanguard Rolling
The Pittsburgh Pride Parade is about to kick off and a pack of motorcyclists rev up the crowd with a roar. Anyone in Pittsburgh's LGBTQ+ community who wants to ride in the vanguard are welcome, a tradition almost as old as the parade itself, and a pack of bikers have answered the call. Rainbows are everywhere here in the Strip District, with Liberty Avenue stretching like a runway. The bikes don't like idling in the heat, all that stop-and-go's not good for them, so the riders want to get going. When they finally do, it sounds like thunder.

Kathi Boyle, Former Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force Leader Who Expanded HIV Services Across Communities, has Passed Away
Kathi Boyle, a longtime human services leader whose work helped expand HIV/AIDS services in Western Pennsylvania beyond the populations initially served during the epidemic's earliest years, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026. Boyle is perhaps best remembered for her leadership at the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force (PATF), now known as Allies for Health + Wellbeing, where she helped guide the organization through a period of growth and transformation. Founded in 1985 during the height of the AIDS crisis, PATF emerged to provide support, housing assistance, prevention services, and advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS at a time when stigma, discrimination, and inadequate government responses left many community members without support.

What interested me though, in the âcase of the twink,â as Iâm calling it, is that the word has been taken over by straight culture, repurposed into a cruel joke, with gay men as the punch line. At its core, âtwinkâ is a colloquial term used in queer spaces to describe a slim, young gay man.
