We took pupils from Bramfield Primary to/from Sutton Hoo vía a mix of public transport. BorderBus ran a doubledecker to Halesworth to catch the train. Today we had the privilege of accompanying 57 pupils from Trimley St. Mary Primary to #Trimley station. The students were given a safety briefing and learned about the role of the volunteer station adopters who look after the station garden and platform flower tubs. @communityrail.bsky.social

Halfway to the weekend & what a weekend it's going to be in #Felixstowe according to the Met Office. Headed there? When you step off the train you'll be greeted by these lovely flowers, the work of Richard & Jenny, part of a team of volunteer station adopters who keep the station looking so nice.

It's Better Transport Week, an annual campaign celebrating the benefits of public transport, shared transport, walking, wheeling, and cycling. The campaign highlights how better transport connects people and places, including access to jobs, education, healthcare, leisure and local services.

Today, Val, the longtime volunteer adopter at Halesworth station, filled two new planters with lovely flowers. She used a mix of compost, cardboard and bits of old wood; a great way to recycle and stretch the compost! The planters were funded by the East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership.

The folks from Railfuture held their East Anglia meeting today in Ipswich, featuring an update on recent/ planned activities/campaigns. Rail Officer Thalia gave a presentation on initiatives happening on the East Suffolk Lines as did Lesley from the St. Edmunds CRP for the Ipswich-Cambridge route.

Cycle restrictions-Dunwich Dynamo. Cyclists won't be able to transport bikes by rail after the event. Each train has 6 cycle spaces, not enough for the number of cyclists taking part. Cycles are not permitted on Intercity trains Sun 26/7, or Lowestoft-Ipswich & Lowestoft-Norwich Sun 26/7 & Mon 27/7.

Despite the weather folks turned out today @ Darsham station to start transforming the old goods yard into a wildlife area, for the community, & Darsham Country Centre charity. They made a start but lots of brambles/nettles/trees still need clearing. Watch this space for the next working party day!

Going by train is one of the greenest ways to travel, so.....we headed to Suffolk County Council Endeavour House, set up a stall, and talked with folks about the benefits of taking the train. We also conducted a survey and gave everyone who filled one out a water bottle or a cake! #CommunityRailWeek

It's #CommunityRailWeek and today the spotlight is on station flowers/gardens on the Felixstowe Line. Behind these lovely floral displays are several volunteer station adopters. Each station is different, reflecting its own individuality and that of each team of dedicated volunteers.

As part of #CommunityRailWeek, we spent the morning at Ipswich station and on the 0725 service to London handing out biscuits with a QR code attached that goes to a survey. The survey is about learning how people use the railway (commuting, leisure, etc) to make it the best possible experience.

Today we and Essex & South Suffolk CRP and the Ipswich Deaf Children’s Society took some families with children who have hearing difficulties to see #Colchester Castle. It has accessibility features making it more inclusive for people with hearing impairments like guided tours with live captioning.

Today we and TCHC, a SEN/NEAT facility in Ipswich, took 7 students to Sutton Hoo. We went by train to Melton, then Connecting Communities minibus. We visited Tranmer House/the museum/stables/observation tower. Our tour guide was Val Rutterford, volunteer @ Sutton Hoo & station adopter @ #Halesworth.

Additional late night trains are now serving Beccles and Lowestoft Mon - Sat NEW 22:40 Lowestoft to Beccles; this is a direct service to Beccles via Lowestoft departing Norwich 21:54. NEW 23:00 Beccles direct to Norwich via Lowestoft, followed by the already timetabled 23:24 Beccles to Lowestoft

Look what's sprung up at Felixstowe station! Station adopter group Edible Felixstowe has installed two new small planters on the platform. Both have been planted with a fig tree. One of the trees is surrounded by Nasturtium (flowers/leaves lovely in salad!); the other contains a selection of herbs.
