I'm feeling really sad about this. If the industry that supplies libraries is collapsing, will libraries themselves collapse?

This is Adelita Grijalva. She was elected to Congress two weeks ago, officially making her the final vote needed to force the release of the Epstein files. She has still not been sworn in because Mike Johnson refuses to do so.

It's clear now nothing short of legislative action can guarantee libraries the same right to purchase and lend digital content that they have for print material. Without such action, we face the Spotification of libraries - paying for the right to temporarily access, nothing more.

Clarivate is now talking about how subscriptions are a valuable model for book acquisition. Libraries have subscriptions because they're a cost-effective way to get access to books. This doesn't mean this is how we *want* to be acquiring books.

All applications for gender marker change are on hold while the State Department changes this policy. Anyone who now submits an application for a change runs the risk of losing access to their passport and documents while their application is being processed.

My Libraries feed is a little unsatisfying, as it's mostly "love your library" type posts. Where can I find discussion amongst librarians?

My sense of
#chsconf24
so far is that there's a feeling that open access funding models are mature enough that we can start to evaluate which ones are working. Collaborative funding is looking good!

"Philadelphia City Commissioner Lisa Deeley says some voters have complained about receiving return mail ballot envelopes that have already been sealed shut."

What to do if your mail-in ballot envelope was sealed shut in Philadelphia
Officials said humidity and exposure to water may have pre-sealed some return envelopes that were sent out in the city and across the state.

I'm seeking info on campaigns to investigate/regulate the ebook marketplace, to ensure that libraries can buy and loan ebooks at affordable prices and with stable access. Great stuff from

and
#ebookSOS
, but it seems to stop around 2022. Anyone know why, or have updates?
