Works with lime / linden (Tilia spp) grown in an urban environment. Rings that are hard to see and messy growth, so surprising and satisfying when I get t-values ​​of 8 between several different trees. 🌳💍🔬

What happened to this oak in 2024? Minimal earlywood vessels and a light color across the entire ring. Any suggestions? 🔬🤔

A day at the Børsen in Copenhagen. Sad to see how the fire last year destroyed the 400 year old building, but interesting sampling of pine trunks from Gotland together with colleagues from the University of Gothenburg. 🌳💍🔬

Ending the work week by analyzing subfossil pine and oak. One of the pines seems to be about 3500 years old, the oak can probably be 14c-dated. 🌳💍

Thankfully, there are days when I dive into new methods, gain fresh insights, and uncover new opportunities—reminding me why I chose research in the first place. Today’s highlight was micro-CT scanning of oak; the level of detail and quality of the images are astounding. A great day at work!

A question to all tree researchers. Cienciala et al 2008 published a paper about “Biomass functions applicable to oak trees”. Are there similar studies and reliable formulas or scripts available to estimate biomass functions for Tilia and Betula growing in S Scandinavia?
