In the cinema, waiting to see the Spinal Tap movie. My mate couldn’t make it so I’m completely on my own. 2nd time that’s happened - recently saw The Ballad of Wallis Island in an empty cinema. Not sure if I like it, to be honest. Feels very weird. Hope it’s funny otherwise this could be depressing.

Day 5 of the #ArtistFaveLP featuring the Blue Aeroplanes 1986 LP, Tolerance. This is Warhol’s Fifteen and it’s another poem set to music, which isn’t to everybody’s liking, but I like it. The remaining 5 tracks are all great and I’m struggling to think what order to use for them!

If The Godfather had been set in Ipswich rather than New York, the opening line of the film would have been “I believe in Ipswich” rather than “I believe in America”. Always makes me laugh to think about that.

So here is the next song from the Blue Aeroplanes’ 1986 LP Tolerance. So far we’ve had Soul, Rare Flowers & When the wave comes. The next track is 30 Love. A classic Blue Aeroplanes song -Gerard Langley reciting poetry while the band’s many guitarists do their thing! I like this a lot. #ArtistFaveLP

If I can be bothered to get out of bed, which is always a challenge these days, I’m off to glamorous, swinging London in the morning. Hope I see the King and lots of famous people, like Mick Jagger and Charlie George.

Couple of attractive-looking new CDs arrived today. Credited to the Daintees but all songs written and sung by Martin Stephenson. Not sure if he/they are on this site so cannot tag them. I know Martin is on twitter but I’m trying not to use that site from now on. Too many Nazis, racists and bots.

Probably the best track ever released on the legendary Factory Records - Happy Mondays, Wrote for Luck, 1988. If ever a song summed up an entire era in just 3 minutes, this was it.

#ArtistFaveLP The third track from the Blue Aeroplanes’ 1986 LP Tolerance is this pleasant little song called When the Wave Comes. I quite like this one musically, but always felt it needed stronger vocals, which is why it is quite low down the list. They were, and are, a great live act.

Cannot overstate just how brilliant Mark Steel’s latest show, The Leopard in my House, is. Saw him perform it in Bristol on Sunday night and loved every second of it. It’s funny, emotional and uplifting - a great combination! Go see it if you get the chance. Promise you, you won’t regret it.

Seeing Geoffrey “Geoff” Norcott in Bristol tonight. Saw him on the Basic Bloke tour last year and this is Basic Bloke 2. Looking forward to Basic Bloke 3 next year.

This isn’t Disco Purrfection but it’s basically the same thing. A 12 minute dreamy mix of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams. Lovely stuff.

I’ve recently become a bit obsessed with these extended versions of 70s soft rock classics by Disco Purrfection. Here’s the brilliant Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs. First time I heard this was on a crappy little radio, listening to Radio Luxembourg on 208 medium wave, in 1977. Long time ago now.
