It's easier to think of the Route 8 bus in terms of Quantum Mechanics, or specifically Schrodinger's Bus: The bus exists in an imaginary box, and it is in either of two states: en route or stopped. And when you see it, it becomes either en route or hopelessly stuck in traffic, like a dead cat.
