To make an inside joke to myself, during the recent play I was in, I put a copy of my own novel The Rubble and the Shakespeare, on the bookshelf on the set. Meta humor...both the name of an actor in the play and the writer of the play appearing in the background. But...(1/2)

I work a partial shift today at an arts building. Modest programming for now, and modest funds. Modest hours too. Indicative of the state of arts in a way. But also, just being here, even while void of visitors provides a palpable essence of creativity and passion. #Arts alone can save us, I think.

The first #Christmas without Mom is behind me. Never again will I have to live it for the first time. For the rest of my life, however long that is, I have already experienced Christmas without her. #grief

So I have put up some #Christmas decorations. Not usual levels. But i have not gone dry either. Work keeps me away too, which is why I have later in watching movies this year than ever. But a few I will probably skip this year. #grief

The decorations are in from the shed for my first ever # Christmas season without Mom. I intend for it to be a subtler look, but by no means am I going with zero. I have to know there is at least still some Christmas in me.

I associate a lot of a certain type of #jazz with Christmas. My theory is 1) Charlie Brown Christmas. 2) For much of my life, older music you don't normally hear on mainstream radio plays a lot at Christmas time. So impressionable me-as-child probably associated the two.

In many cases it is not so much about the rules themselves. They vary of course depending on where you are. What makes me sick is the inconsistent enforcement of same. Like, I don't care if John can brings drinks into the meeting room, but if John can't neither can anybody you. #autistic

The older I am, the more convinced I become that without at least a small collection of rules that are enforced loudly and consistently within a system, nobody is helped. Overt permissiveness in every corner in the name of compassion hurts the rule keepers more than it helps the rules breakers.

It isn't the masking per se that is the problem. It is the daily expectations that require the biggest most sustained masking of which I am capable that is the problem. #autistic

Anyway, my first ever #Thanksgiving without Mom went well enough. A friend of mine hosted me, otherwise I may have spent it alone. Very lowkey affair. And no leftovers...it is far too presumptuous, in my opinion, to take leftovers home from a non-family host.

Pickleball can make some people, perhaps many people, unnecessarily angry.

As I always do with boycotts, I urge: be tough with corporations, gentle with individual buyers. For some people, Black Friday sales are the way they get their kids jackets that fit, shoes that hold up to the weather. Yelling at them doesn’t help the cause.

I also tend to expect following someone on social media for a certain amount of time before I think it's okay to engage. I am better at that than I used to be, but many is the response here that is quashed by the internal question, "are you important enough to talk to them now?"

I just know I am on someone's "Quiet Posters" group on here. I try to say more. One of my issues is the self-imposed expectation to only say things that have rarely, if ever been said before...or at least recently, in context. In reality that's an absurd metric. It has been a lifelong, "struggle."

I recently started working at a company that has a gym for employees. I use it on days i work. I never used a gym before in life, but I figured it is time to look forward to my future health as well.

Negative self chatter is common to creative people. We tend to easily self-bash and this contributes to anxiety and depression and other things. Break your bad self-bashing habits. Document how often you tell yourself you suck. Mark it on a calendar to make it visible. #writingcommunity #booksky

With the seeming success of #DeathByLightning, (which I thought about joining Netflix to watch), I am seriously considering a remarketing campaign of one of my previous novels, There Is Pain Here. It's a fantasy with President Garfield as protagonist, set in the Afterlife.

I have not watched the Orville. To each his own. But it is NOT the best Star Trek right now because it is NOT Trek. No matter how much of a love letter it may be to Trek, it isn't and never will be so. I just hate when people say that.

The two neighboring counties to my own offer library cards to citizens of my county as well. I love that. (And yes, I have one from both.)

I am playing Grumio in Taming of the Shrew. So far, he's about on third myself, one third Bob Newhart, and one third Murdoch from the A-Team. (The character...not the MAGA nut actor that played him.)

What is interesting to you to hear about from non-famous people? What aspects of their lives/adventures?

I do wish I had more interesting things to share. They seem like nice slice of life things to me, but rarely make an impact, either here, or other platforms. Or, for that matter, my various essays and memoir.

The biggest takeaway from working #customerservice as an Autistic person has been this: a solid majority of people do not even for a moment consider the possibility that a person, an organization, a family, a country, etc could possibly do, think, see or need different things from themselves.

so I have gone through a lot of CD books this last month or so. and much like when I read I notice that a lot of modern novels flashback too often and for too long. The trend seems to be to set up a premise and then spend scores of pages describing how characters lived before the premise.

In an enormous win against executive disfunction, I both went to to the gym and applied the first layer of weather proof paint to my porch yesterday, and today I kept a doctor's appointment I did not feel like keeping, and later picked up groceries. #autism

I am pissed at the used car I got recently. Very much needed it, yes, but the CD player that I have listened to so many audio books on since I got it, keeps malfunctioning, and i have no idea how to fix it. I only just started to enjoy this major plus. #audiobooks

Several people have quit the company I work for lately, including my favorite coworker, as I mentioned last week. That may open the door for more hours for me some day, I don't know. But I am not over her departure enough yet to consider any potential pluses.
