We're in Costa Rica, driving from Rincon de la Vieja and we found this AMAZING little coffee house tucked away in the mountains outside of Monteverde. This is it, this is what I want to do when I'm older and I decide I've had enough IT sector bullshit. I would never leave.

Today I ordered a product from an online company and someone from their customer service dept called me literally just to chat. Five years ago I would have been annoyed. But now it's nice to know a place actually has a real customer service department.

I wish glassware could talk. I recently inherited some lowballs from my grandpa and recognized them as the ones he would take out to drink with company over a special occasion or heavy conversation. The man LOVED brandy, lived to 100, and I can only imagine the conversations those glasses overheard.

Went shopping at a local thrift store because I've gotten too fat for my clothes. I was not prepared for just how many pants sizes I've gone up :( That was...depressing.

Merry Crisis

I made a pallet wood frame for a piece of canvas bag from a local tea shop. The bag had long since given up being a bag but had a nice graphic on it. Gonna get a hanger bracket for it and hang it on the wall.

Practicing a nice lounge-y jazz arrangement of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and all I can think of is the scene from The Office where Angela goes "Jazz is stupid. Just play the right notes!"

I often feel like I get completely eclipsed by my partner who has vastly more numerous and fascinating hobbies. And I'm not exactly an extrovert either. My favorite thing is when people come over and see a grand piano in the living room, ask whose it is, and realize they know very little about me.

Sitting on the back deck in between meetings, drinking tea, listening to Cambodian surf rock, and smoking a cigar at 9:30 in the morning is a ridiculous vibe but I'm having a hell of a week and everything is chaos.

Gave beeb a leaf to rest on overnight, marginal improvement if any :( He was trying to climb the stem of the leaf, maybe trying to find flowers? He was too weak to climb; I went and picked him some so he knows he's doing a great job. This is just bee hospice. I'm gonna cry if/when he passes.

I saw a bee struggling and brought it inside to try to feed it and let it warm up but I don't think it's going to make it :( judging by the faded color and the balding spot, it may just have lived a full life already. My heart aches for you, sweet little creature. I hope you're comfortable at least.

Meet Greg. He shows up in our house randomly from time to time. However it's worth noting that he shows up 100% of the time when we make enchiladas. Last time I made enchiladas, he appeared and I excitedly shouted "Greg!! Hey buddy!!" And he flew right onto the enchiladas. He was fine.

It is SO hard to not fall back into old drinking habits these days.

The finished product ^^ it wasn't a particularly challenging project but I'm still very pleased with how it came out. I can't wait to give it to him for our anniversary.

Since my partner doesn't have Bluesky I'm not at risk of spoiling the anniversary gift. I had this old really torn up tote bag from a local tea house where he and I met for the first time MANY years ago. I cut up some pallet wood to make a frame and I'm gonna staple the bag fabric to the back.

I have to share, I'm ecstatic: I went for my first winter bike ride today. I spent the last few weeks gearing up properly and it paid off! It was 19°F and the only limiting factor in my ride was my very out-of-shape legs XD but I'll be able to continue riding my bike to my swim sessions at the gym!

I flung the front door open, excitedly grabbing the package off the steps and did a sort of pirate-y "Ha harrrr!!" ...before looking up to see a passerby holding back a smile mixed with some concern.

Very old new-to-me piano moved in today!!! Also have a picture of a little forest spirit that's been camping out on the railing of our deck. Had to relocate lil squidge so the movers wouldn't accidentally grab the railing and smish the poor baby.

Tomorrow I'm giving up the piano that I've had since I was 8 or 9, quite possibly the second longest-cherished possession of mine. I'm having a hell of a struggle tonight, playing it one last time and damn does it sound more beautiful than ever 😭 it's going to a good home though and it will be loved
