The loss of 79 educational assistants at YK1 is devastating to our schools. We've known that cuts to Jordan's Principle's funding were going to impact education but this is simply too much.

Bill 29: First Responder Workers' Compensation Amendment Act has passed 2nd reading! Now the Standing Committee on Government Operations will review the bill and report back in the fall.

UPDATE on the drinking water situation at Yellowknife schools. The Minister announced today that there will be a 3rd Party investigation into the cause of contamination in the drinking water samples at Range Lake North School and École William Macdonald School.

Yesterday the legislation Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to doctors, nurses and all healthcare workers by passing our motion Staffing Solutions to Rebuild and Reform Healthcare Care.

I've had a number of constituents reach out concerned about drinking water in Range Lake homes. City water pipes and pumphouses are tested regularly and I have not heard any concerns.

Today, I was pleased to support Bill 26: An Act to Amend the Public Service Act, aka to allow nurses to form their own collective bargaining unit. The bill passed 2nd reading and is off to committee for study before the final vote in the Fall.

We're back in the House today until May 30. It's a short sitting, but there's no shortage of important issues that need to be raised with your government.

The NWT must create a dedicated emergency management agency and make Indigenous governments full partners in that, a major review of 2023's wildfires declared.

Last bit of healthcare news for the day (hopefully). This is good news for the ER staffing and hopefully the new financial incentives are good enough for the docs. I still haven't seen the details but this is the kind of concrete action that is sorely needed, even if only a short-term fix. #nwtpoli

I was worried about the ER at Stanton but this is a seriously bad development in Hay River. As a parent, this is the kind of stuff that keeps you up at night if your kids need urgent care. We need to start listening to the frontline and make a real plan to fix NWT healthcare now! #nwtpoli
