Met this lovable beast at Mystic Falls Park at Sam’s Town in Vegas.

Had a brief stop at the Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino and was charmed by its interior featuring local art, historic displays, themed restaurants, and lots of slots.

Had the good fortune to visit The Freak Family traveling trailer in Oakland yesterday. A wondrous experience and a treat for this lover of animatronics.

What started as a Sara Velas lecture on Panorama history eventually veered into a brief discussion about The Man in the Tuskhut. I hope to one day visit this mysterious man.

Visited The Haunt at Yerba Buena Center, featuring a number of artists corralled by BatWitchGhost.art Super fun, and the right level of spooky for my haunt-averse spouse.

Bought this awhile ago. My daughter is now old enough to get it, so peeled off that shrink wrap it was tons of fun. Nice to see WDW Hotel representation in a board game!

If I could get to LA next week, I would definitely be visiting the Man in the Tuskhut. Hopefully he makes himself available again (or makes his way to the Frisco Bay...).

Corinne Griffith was a stunner and had a wild life that inspired Billy Wilder’s FEDORA.

Very excited that 8 more Heather McAdams films will be preserved by @chicagofilmsociety.org. If you caught the screenings of her previously preserved works earlier this year, you know we are in for a treat when these new 16mm gems emerge on the screen.

Finally caught the Ruth Asawa show at SFMOMA and fell in love with these pieces that seem tailor made for a swinging space-age pad.

Last weekend the Bob Baker Marionette Theater came to the Circus Center in SF and it was a grand time.

Had a grand time with the Dambo Trolls at Filoli just south of SF. Beautiful grounds and the trail with these creatures was a beautiful stroll.

Who’s doing the 20th anniversary screening of Albert Brooks’s LOOKING FOR COMEDY IN THE MUSLIM WORLD? I remember being flummoxed by this picture in 2005. Feels like it’s forgotten.

Finally hit up the Santa Cruz Boardwalk as summer winds down. Cave Train ride is looking sharp and I love the pirate mini golf course.

Lots of great American movies being preserved with NFPF grants this year, including Jean Harlow in early sound film WEAK BUT WILLING (1929), early Owen Land shorts, 4 by Kentucky animator Ed Counts, Ohio promotional films, color home movies of Herbert Hoover at the White House, and many more.

50th anniversary of Knott’s Bear-y Tales, an amazing experience. Walked through ride before park opened, saw restored weirdos thanks to @mrzeugirdor93.bsky.social, folks who made the ride with Rolly Crump, and of course a signing of the magnificent tome by @cdylanm.bsky.social & Eric Lynxwiler.

Took one last ride on Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue last night. Sad to see any dark ride heading out to pasture, but I’m intrigued to have Jake Sully come to my rescue.

Blown away by the “Desperate, Scared, but Social” show at the Orange County Museum of Art. The Emily’s Sassy Lime room sublimely captures the indie scene in the ‘90s plus some Disneyland art!

Started the long weekend off visiting the Mary Blair exhibit at the Walt Disney Family Museum. Most delighted by this Mary & Rolly joint, made on a crate lid.

Finally pulled the trigger on a pass and will be making a quick trip south to revel in Bear-y Tale lore (and Weird Juice?). This ride along with Adventure Through Inner Space really did a number on my tween subconscious.
