Today we honored Eloy Rodriguez, a 20-year driver for California Waste Solutions, for his courageous actions on May 23. When his truck caught fire in Nola Ranch, he safely steered it away from danger. His quick thinking protected lives and property—thank you, Eloy!

From its strip mall start to the first Mandarin Immersion program in SJ, Cherrywood Elementary shaped the Berryessa community for 50+ years. Even as it closes, its legacy of learning and community endures.

Yesterday I visited Ms. Berliner’s AP Government classes at Independence High School. It was a pleasure taking questions from students and discussing what we do at City Hall and how we’re addressing larger issues at the state and federal levels. The future is in good hands with the next generation.

We’re saddened by the passing of Ray Hashimoto, a visionary who helped shape San Jose’s growth through major projects and civic leadership. His impact will be felt for generations.

Toured the new Larry Ellison Wildlife Center in Saratoga with my team this week. A major upgrade for the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley, it provides a sanctuary for rescued animals. The drop-off site at Penitencia Creek Park remains open for injured wildlife!

20 years ago, I spoke at the opening of Berryessa Branch Library. Now the busiest of San Jose’s 23 branches, it remains a hub of learning and community. As we celebrate this milestone, we honor the staff, residents, and shared commitment that make it a true District 4 treasure.

Toured the new Trimble Rd/101 overpass with DOT & VTA today. This project connects North San Jose neighborhoods to job centers with safe, well-lit paths for walkers and bikers—making sustainable commuting easier for our community.

Today, I toured the newly completed Safe Parking Site at 1300 Berryessa Road, offering 86 spaces with restrooms, security, power, and water. This facility provides a secure place for those living in vehicles on San Jose streets. Move-ins begin February 28th.

Yesterday, my team and I joined Councilmember Carl Salas for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the new Pacific Workplaces location in Downtown San Jose. This flexible workspace provides a valuable opportunity for new businesses to grow and succeed without the commitment of a long-term lease.

Berryessa Chinese School celebrated its 45th anniversary at its Lunar New Year event at Sierramont Middle School, featuring student performances, awards, and reflections on its impact in promoting Chinese language and heritage.

VTA held a community open house at Cherrywood Elementary to discuss potential Transit-Oriented Development at Hostetter Station. Residents learned about the project, shared feedback, and engaged with VTA staff.
