Anyway, shoutout to an ex-friend who told me I was “just looking for things to criticize” when we were discussing Andor S1 and I was explaining my frustration about Mon’s relationship with Leida to him.

Star Wars hates mothers and motherhood. They either kill the mother, or permanently separate her from her children, or kill the children. SW has NEVER given a character who is a mother a happy ending with her children and/or family intact and together. And I find that really fucking appalling.

Andor is the odd man out in the franchise + the nature of it being morally grey/serious vs campy/lighthearted does not inherently make it “good” SW/more deep/meaningful. Just admit u want/prefer a complex/nuanced sci-fi story + leave the rest of us alone to enjoy the silly but sincere space opera

Really the point of “fanfic authors write for free!” is surely not “so shh because you, the customer, are getting a bargain,” it’s that this is not a commercial relationship. The story’s not a product being sold to you; you aren’t a customer at all. This is a different kind of thing.
