every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

AI hype and anti-hype is a textbook example of the false consensus effect. Software devs can't imagine anyone wouldn't find it useful because it's so good at software. Writers can't imagine anyone would find it useful because it's so bad at writing.

This is a huge part of why so many people think we're in the middle of a widespread "anti-woke backlash": Small movements opposed to social progress are collected into trend stories by conservative media. Far larger movements that want more diversity are ignored or cast as threats.

When Mark Carney sets specific goals for Canada to "diversify away" from its reliance on the US—making headlines in Canada but not the US—hear that for what it is: Close partners and allies looking elsewhere for better friends. This is the silent way that the US loses its pointless trade war.

Hegseth's "Kill Everybody" Drug Strike Order and the Duty to Refuse That Didn’t Happen. A Deeper Look Analysis.
In recent days, information has surfaced that provides what appears to be a textbook example of an unlawful order that could have—and should have—been refused.

A U.S. soldier was executed on the streets of the U.S. capital, yet the flags remain at full-staff. But when a hate-peddling podcaster was killed, the flags were lowered to half-staff within hours—and stayed that way for days. WTH? Tonight...

Apparently the Ford government is removing the law that prevented Air Miles from expiring. A popular and sensible law, removed to accommodate a business at the expense of regular people.

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.

Will say it again: We the People don’t need (& shouldn’t want) our military to take unilateral action to remove a President. That would be a coup. We need our military to remain professional, disciplined, subservient to civil authority — & quietly stay in the barracks when ordered into the streets.

Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.
