Venturing out on the last leg of a month of travel - this time to Louisiana for a few days of rest - before heading back to Colorado for private tours. Belize was fantastic - lots of birds, iguanas, crocodiles, monkeys, a gray fox, toads, and even a few coatis! Here is a photo of a great curassow.

Something a little lighter and hopefully more smile producing. Here are my first edits from the photo tour in the Amazon River Basin of Peru. This continues to be an amazing trip with lots of new bird species for our clients. And so far we have seen an amazing eight species of monkeys!!

Numbers are in for the most visited national parks in 2024. Rocky Mountain NP has come in at the fifth position, with 4.15 million visitors, after Great Smoky Mountains, Zion, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. The visitation number for Rocky is a slight increase over 2023, which was 4.12 million.

I found a pelican floating around a small pond on a drive to Louisiana recently. The keel, or horn, is starting to grow on the beak of this adult. The purpose of the hard bump is not known but is suspected to be part of attracting mates. It falls off after breeding season. #birdphotography

Grand Teton National Park’s 96th birthday was yesterday. Interestingly, I also came across the first photo I ever took of Grizzly 399 last night. So, I am sharing that photo with you of this amazing bear in 2012. Wow, 13 years of photographing her. Happy birthday, GTNP!! 🎉🏔️🐻

This is another photo of the beautiful piebald elk. She yawned a bit in front of me one morning giving me a view into her mouth. Elk have two teeth known as ivories. The purpose of them is unknown but it is believed that they are what remains of tusks on ancient elk.

I share with you another one of nature’s beautiful creatures. This is a piebald cow elk. I have been out to photograph her a few times but that soft light on a snowy day was so appealing. CPW estimates that this recessive trait happens once in every 100,000 elk. #elk #wildlife
