Memorial to Lt's Melvill and Coghill killed at Battle of Isandlwana 22nd January 1879. Lieutenants Melville and Coghill were not found until the 4th February 1879 and were buried where they died. They were then reburied in an isolated grave on 14th April where today is marked by a memorial.

146 years ago today on the 22nd January 1879 a British force camped at Isandlwana were defeated by a Zulu Army of 20,000 warriors. The British lost 52 officers and 806 other ranks killed plus 471 Africans were killed fighting for the British. Zulu casualties estimated at some 2,000 dead.
