Prediction: Research will eventually find that there is no one size fits all method of communication. That all autistics CAN communicate, that most autistics WANT TO communicate. That all autistics are capable of learning new things, including means of communication.

I thought I was getting over #INSAR2026 jet lag, but today I took my son to his fave taqueria and ordered him the wrong quesadilla—& then couldn't understand why he was pissed and refused to eat it. The staff, who know us, had to point out my error. I could not even register that error on my own. ><

BREAKING: We’re suing Idaho over a new state law banning transgender people from using the correct restrooms in all government-owned buildings and private businesses that are open to the public. This extreme law threatens felony convictions and up to 5 years in prison.

Going forward, we at @autisticadvocacy.org are holding the IACC accountable for their actions and working to ensure that autistic voices are heard within research and policy making decisions. 13/13

Despite @autisticadvocacy.org's hopes that the IACC would provide an opportunity for inclusion, Secretary Kennedy’s HHS is clearly continuing to make policy about us without us, and may be breaking the law by doing so. 12/

The IACC is supposed to publish its agenda and materials at least a week before the meeting. It did not do this. The agenda that it posted on Friday did not tell us anything meaningful about yesterday’s meeting and did not give us [ASAN] an opportunity to comment on the committee’s proposals. 11/

@autisticadvocacy.org wants to stress that the IACC voted on these recommendations without comprehensive federal review, without public input, and despite questions about whether they were produced legally. 10/

It is unclear who drafted these materials or who selected the topics these recommendations are about. There were no working groups established by the full IACC committee to develop these recommendations & they are not the product of the full committee, bc yesterday is the 1st time they have met. 9/

Several federal IACC members stressed the lack of time to review these materials and to get input and approval from the rest of their agencies. Members also raised that yesterday’s process to consider these recommendations is highly unusual and potentially illegal. #autism #policy 8/

The IACC did not publish the recommendation materials or a meeting agenda for yesterday’s meeting until last Friday evening – less than two weekdays before the IACC’s first meeting and long after they stopped accepting comments for yesterday’s meeting. 7/
