It’s an exciting day at Old Friends with the late Gulch’s daughter Albany House turning 21! She arrived at the farm in 2018 and spends her days at the MHG Annex.

We have a quartet of birthdays today, led by 20YO Tellalittlesecret, who is celebrating with her BFF Mr. Besilu! She’s joined by 16YO Wired Fast at the MHG Annex. At Dream Chase, Exulting is officially a teenager at 13 and Mwari’s 7th birthday party will be rocking.

Our birthday boy today is so important that he’s not sharing it! 2005 G1 Wood Memorial winner and that year’s Kentucky Derby favorite Bellamy Road turns 24 today. After his racing career, he stood stud in Kentucky and New York and sired multiple graded stakes winners including our own G1W Diversify!

We have two horses already in their terrific 20s celebrating today! Paddock 1 at the MHG Annex is going to be hopping as they celebrate Control Tower’s 27th birthday. Meanwhile in Paddock 62 at Dream Chase, the day is all about G1W Fabulous Strike (on the left), who is 23 today!

Fourteen years ago, I’ll Have Another stalked the leaders before striking in the stretch and entering a duel that saw him win a three-horse photo, punching his ticket to the Kentucky Derby.

16 years ago today, Warrior’s Reward won the G1 Carter H. and he’s celebrating that win AND his 20th birthday today here at Old Friends. April 3 is also Millie’s Thunder’s birthday with the winning racemare officially an adult at 18 – with the MHG Annex very excited for her party.

If you know Nobiz, you aren’t surprised that his jockey had to wrangle with a “handful of horse” on his way to a determined victory in this Derby prep. Future fellow Old Friends resident Any Given Saturday checked in third.

It’s a busy birthday day! G1W Seek Gold is 26 while MGSW Arson Squad is celebrating his 23rd birthday, a birthday he shares with Dixieland Squall! We’re also celebrating @BelmontStakes winner Ruler On Ice turning 18 and @BourbonLane’s G3W Bent on Bourbon is 14.

21 years ago, Bellamy Road put in a wire-to-wire performance, being called a “dazzling three-year old” when he won the Wood Memorial by more than 15 lengths and secured his spot as the Kentucky Derby favorite.

Silver Charm’s daughter Private Charm was born 24 years ago today & shares a birthday with a dual classic winner in 17YO I’ll Have Another, who will be kept humble by Lava Man. You Know I Know you know the gelding by that name turns 17 as while our dual G1W Count Again rounds out the group at 11!

in 2010, Warrior’s Reward won a stirring stretch battle and photo finish with Musket Man to secure a G1 victory in the Carter H. After standing stud at Spendthrift Farm, Warrior spent time at WynOaks Farm in Pennsylvania before retiring to Old Friends in 2024.

They’re running the Army Mule S. at Gulfstream today, and we gotta admit, we have a soft spot for the namesake of the race. On his sire’s side, Army Mule traces to our wonderful Australian champion Bint Marscay. Binty passed in 2019, but we can’t pass up a chance to keep her memory alive.

We are very sad to share the loss of the wonderful 29YO Saudi Poetry to the infirmities of old age. Saudi was a GSW mare & dam of 10 foals. Thanks to author Laura Hillenbrand, Saudi Poetry was safely retired to Old Friends in 2019. We will all miss this beautiful, flashy mare.

In the 2008 Florida Derby, Big Brown scored an emphatic 5L victory & solidified his place as the leading contender for the Kentucky Derby. Today, Big Brown is in his second season of welcoming visitors to Old Friends, accompanied by his new sidekick – Little Brown!

Old Friend resident Noble Indy’s shining moment came this weekend eight years ago when he held on stubbornly and refused to lose the 2018 Louisiana Derby!

In the 2010 Louisiana Derby, Mission Impazible closed relentlessly on the outside to overtake the leader and win over a field that included that year’s Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer.

It’s another Grade 1 winning birthday day at Old Friends! Hall of Famer Lava Man and G1 Personal Ensign winner Shadow Cast share a birthday and turn 25 today! Shadow Cast’s pasturemate Misszoey Belle is also celebrating her 21st birthday so we know Paddock 75 is the place to be today!

Skips World is our only birthday boy today, turning 16 (he told us the only interest he has in golf carts is when they include carrots)! He lives on the same farm his damsire is interred on with Skip Away buried in the Nikki Bacharach Memorial Garden.

Both Mischievous Sophie & Weekend Hideaway turn 16 today, so we had to have the “horses can’t drive golf carts” chat. Chitu is right behind the pair at 15 while Stormy Liberal just showed us Patch’s 12th birthday cake and he went above and beyond for his BFF!

We only have one birthday today, but it’s a big one - Repole Stable’s multiple graded stakes winner Fearless is hitting double digits as a 10YO! Rocketry and Lubash have both been whispering to each other so we’re pretty sure it’s going to be a heck of a birthday bash.

It’s a quiet day on the birthday front … but not too quiet! Multiple G2 winner and G1 placed Smooth Air is celebrating birthday number 21. Yesterday we celebrated 126-time starter Mikethespike and today it’s 114-time starter Klaatu’s time with the 12-year-old celebrating his first birthday with us.

It’s a busy day of birthdays around Old Friends! Mikethespike, who made 126 starts(!) is 26 today while a trifecta of 24YOs is right behind him in Jack the Hack, Quiet Honor, & Reflect the Queen. Two of our G1W round out the group with El Brujo 20 and @Godolphin’s Alpha 17!

Rumor has it Zenyatta has something to celebrate today … her first-born son Cozmic One is turning 14! The Pizza Man has been brainstorming this day for weeks so we’re looking forward to seeing what he has planned.

On this National Woman’s Day, we’re honoring the second oldest horse and oldest girl on the farm – Miss Du Bois! Living with us since 2015, she is best known as the dam of G1 winner Film Maker and granddam of G2W/G1P Focus Group.

We started the week’s throwbacks with Ring Weekend so why don’t we end it with him too? After starting his stakes career on the dirt, he switched over to turf and earned his Grade 1 victory in the 2015 edition of the Frank E. Kilroe Mile by a length!

March 7 was a busy day in the foaling barns! Bank of Dad leads the charge with the MHG Annex resident turning 21 today. Samantha Siegel is celebrating the 16th birthday of her El Oh El and her 10YO Hair of the Cat as well. And we’d be remiss to miss our duo of 17YOd– Big Blue Nation and Kharafa!

In the 2022 G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile, Count Again went off as the favorite but made his fans sweat it out when he waited until the last possible second to get in front, winning by a head!

In the early 2010s, the Santa Anita Handicap was all about Game On Dude with the gelding winning the race all three times he ran in it from 2011 to 2014. His 2014 victory was his last race win with ‘Dude’ retiring a few months later.
