It’s my birthday today and I’m struggling hard right now. What today means is performative happiness for my family and guilt for not wanting to celebrate. I’m so tired. If I could just stay in bed I would but I have a family that needs me. But I’m so tired.

If I knew how to be a hacker I would use my hacking skills primarily to give myself a few extra weeks with my library books. Not noble I know but sometimes I need more than three weeks to finish reading a book. I have 3 kids, 4 cats and a new puppy. I’m so busy!

My 16 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter are having a war over the thermostat. He keeps turning it up to 69. She keeps turning it down to 67.

My life is utterly in flux, unmanageable, and heartbreaking right now but my new turntable and sound system arrived today and I asked my 16 yr old son to pick our first record and so I’m listening to Mazzy Star and it sounds amazing. Dylan is ready to go on next of course.

I am broken. The world around me is broken. Every decision I make seems to worsen the situation. I can’t stop because I have kids to raise. But I have no idea how to make another step forward.

I just got an email from my kid’s pediatrician outlining the strict precautions they will now take as measles has been identified in the area. Thank goodness the vaccine is 97% effective and my kids are all safe but I am furious for those too young or vulnerable to be vaccinated. Damn RFK Jr.

My families New Year’s Eve tradition.

Once I was in Penzance railway station waiting for a train and there were 3 women there, obviously sisters and mother. 1 of the women was holding a baby and all 3 women were gently and unconsciously rocking from side to side in unison. It was so touching and beautiful.

I’m not sure any tv show has ever made me both laugh and cry as much as Ted Lasso. Kindness brings me to tears every time.

Today I watched a ship sail across the face of the sun. It was very cool.

I don’t have the equipment I use at home to cook for my family, but Saturday family movie night with homemade pizza is still in demand with my three teenaged kids! 13, 16, & 19 year old kids who still want to hang out with their parents. It’s such a precious gift!

So many years ago I was in a virgin flight from London to NY and Branson was on the flight. He shook everyone’s hand as we deplaned. What this upsettingly means is I’m only one degree of separation from Epstein. Gross!!

Ziggy is not helping with the packing process. Poor baby makes his trip home to the US starting tomorrow at 3am with the long drive to London. He is going to hate it.

It turns out that I can’t bear to leave my country while it goes through this terrible time. Making plans to go home.

Happiness is hiking with my husband, even on days we have to have painful discussions. We always find our way together.

The very best part of hiking with my family this weekend is that my 16 yr old, who has started school this month in a new country, the only American, was completely himself. I’ve missed him. He’s been pulling away but out hiking he’s still my sweet boy.

Oh the news is bleak today. I have no words of wisdom to offer but I can share a picture of Ziggy, the softest cat I have ever stroked. He is also a gentle giant who has decided to hide his eyes from the news this weekend.

Waking up to “is he dead yet?” Was more fun than waking up to “Has WWWIII started?”

Today was a bad news day. I’m going to bed frightened of what bad actors in the world might have wrought for the people. Sending out love to everyone tonight. There is always hope.

Sent two of my kids off to school this morning for the first time in the UK and the first time in two years to do school away from home. I am looking forward to having them home in the next hour and hearing how it went. Nervous but hopeful. I missed them!

When it is 3 am and you’ve been trapped in the shower stall for 15 minutes by a spider of indescribable eldritch horror and you finally have to call for help it is good to be married to a man who finds it amusing rather than being angry. He saved me. He’s been my best friend and hero for 26 years.

Well the government has finally managed to get the Epstein Files out of the news. All it took was a military take over of DC and whatever the hell it is that just took place in Alaska.

Watching how easily the rule of law is dismissed and democracy is dismantled is frightening. It really looks like D.C. is about to become an occupied city and I am frightened for the people especially the vulnerable. Will this finally distract from the Epstein files? Idk.

Note to self: no news or doom scrolling right before bed. No good is done by lying awake all night simmering in dread!

It’s 1:20am am I am getting to bed after drinking the quantity of wine only consumed when getting together with a friend I’ve known and loved since I was 7 years old on a golden summer night. Sweet dreams all. ❤️
