Advent day 24! Merry Christmas from the I'm a... Team. We had to finish with some Christmas jokes from a very enthusiastic Physics class who had the last Chat of the year.

Advent day 23! We don't share the age of students with the volunteers on the I'm a... programme. This is because questions can vary depending on age and ability. You might hear us say 'if students want more information, they will ask for it'. This is a really great example of that.

Advent day 22 It's great to see conversations being 2 way. The engagement goes beyond a Q&A and turns into a proper conversation. By asking a question back to the student, Rosie was able to extend the interaction.

Advent day 21! What are your hobbies beyond science? We really enjoyed this conversation with Dr Iain Brownlee about his goal to visit all ex-capitals of England!

Advent day 20! In this I'm a Computer Scientist Cloud technology Chat Hannah, Education Lead, really enjoyed how one question could involve answers about tech that looks like smarties and knitting Christmas jumpers for dinosaurs.

Advent day 16 Jamie, event manager, really enjoyed this moment from yesterday's neuroscience Chat. Lily asked a question but peer Daisy wanted to know more information.

Advent day 15 Computer science joke anyone?

Advent day 14 I'm a Computer Scientist supports students to see that STEM could be for them. This interaction shows the personalised conversation that the student had with Caroline and Paul. Their responses supports the students to consider computer science in a way that they hadn't before.

Advent day 13 Hannah, Project Support, shared an article with the team about UK researchers being invited to find uses for Google's quantum chip Willow. It reminded us of this moment from a Chat recently. The student was involved in a conversation about being involved in quantum computing.

Advent day 12 14th century ancient book dust creature?! This authentic moment between a student and Luke highlights how the I'm a Scientist platform supports everyone to take part in 2-way conversations.

Advent day 11 This one speaks for itself. If you could be a natural disaster, which one would you be?

Advent day 10 Mod Laura enjoyed the questions asked by this enthusiastic and curious Year 6 class. Emma was engaging with her responses. By providing smaller replies the student had a chance to respond and make it a 2-way conversation.

Meet Sinead, a particle physicist using maths and coding to understand the building blocks of our universe. Through I’m a Mathematician, she shows students how maths is used as a tool for discovering how the world works.

Advent day 9 During this Chat, Hannah flipped the roles round. She asked the students a question to show that engagement works two ways. This conversation continued to discuss AI and future opportunities.

Advent Day 8 The use of AI is a popular conversation in I'm a Computer Scientist Chats. Mod Laura highlighted this moment about AI getting things like hands wrong in images. Another student joins in and asks about the concerns of AI becoming more realistic.

Advent Day 7 In her profile, Jan describes her job as being 'like a detective who uses numbers and maths to help doctors and hospitals make sure that medicines that work well can be used to help patients feel better'. This student was interested to know more about the 'detective' aspect.

Advent Day 6 Guerrilla gardening?! This moment speaks for itself but it's a great highlight to show another student reading a response to their colleagues question and joining in on the conversation.

Advent Day 5 This is a moment from a Chat with John F Kennedy Catholic School, who have been using the project since 2015. It highlights how the I'm a... Chat platform can support students to feel like they are having a 1-to-1 conversation.

Advent Day 4 Mod Thomas highlighted this conversation back in the summer. He loved the way that the engineer shows his love for working with the machines but that there is more to the role to make sure that the designs come to life.

Advent Day 3 It's no surprise that Event Manager Jamie's choice for the advent calendar was F1 related. This conversation engaged multiple students and scientists. Everyone is on a level playing field. The students are viewing the scientists as normal people with interests like them.

Advent Day 2 Hannah, Project Support Officer, has chosen this moment from our new project I'm a Geographer. She enjoys how Tom, Paul, Franziska and Alex were able to bring geography to life for the student. They left the conversation feeling that geography can be interesting!

Advent Day 1! Georgia, Head of Scientists*, chose today's Chat highlight. This one was back in July. She really enjoyed the students' wild ambition but also how kind and encouraging Larissa's response was. It really felt like a casual conversation between two people.

This National Engineering Day, we’re shining a spotlight on diagnostics engineer, Emily! Emily designs and creates new diagnostic tools that can measure tiny particles. Her experimental work helps physicists to answer big questions about how particles and matter behave.

Last week was #MathsWeekScot Both primary and secondary students used I'm a Mathematician to connect with people using maths in their role. Take a look at one of our favourite interactions across the week. This student had explored Sam's profile beforehand and had more questions about his work.
