Between all the injuries and horrible officiating, the gods really hate the Lions.

Kerby Joseph has now missed 7 games in a row with no IR stint. Josh Paschal was activated from NFI, but he was not ready in time and is now out for the season. The Lions have has trouble gauging the severity of some injuries.

Perfect example there of why the NFL needs to make penalties reviewable. Mariota gets tripped, wasn’t called down by contact. Play is reviewed, overturned as a sack. However, despite the trip being obvious on film, they can’t overturn that missed penalty.

At this point, I’m not sure that the Lions are even the 8th best team in the NFC.

It’s not officially a must-win for the Lions, but a loss vs the Giants would put a playoff berth in serious jeopardy. With four losses, they can maybe afford 2 more. This is their easiest remaining game, they can’t afford to burn one of their losses today.

The Lions made a massive mistake going into this season with only LaPorta, Wright, Zylstra, Yeboah, and Horton. Now they’re down to Wright, Dwelley, Horton, and Firkser. For a team that relies so heavily on their TEs, they have arguably the worst room in the NFL right now.

The Lions need to go into next season with a sure-fire starting center. It needs to be either a veteran or a college player with plenty of experience. I don’t think their plan can be to start Ratledge at center, we can’t afford another year of playing the guessing game amid a shrinking window.
