@getmusic.bsky.social has been pretty good for promotion. It's not scammy, it's just a nice way to get free download codes out into the world. I would rather each one of those was a sale and not a giveaway of course, but it addresses no one having heard of Hyperestis.

Over the past few years, I've noticed that promotion is very siloed. A successful Bandcamp promotion doesn't greatly affect a streaming listener count. Promoting one song won't do much to uplift the other songs. Streams and sales don't strongly correlate. Counts drop when promotion stops.

All of the music I make is really for listening to in bed with giant headphones. It's definitely not for screaming along with in a bar or dancing in a club, though I suppose occasionally it could work out that way. I fear, though, that depressing bed music isn't really where it's at these days.

Always chasing that slightly distanced but clear punchy mix. Everything up front can sound great if you are The Band or Norah Jones but with textured synthetic sound I like to see it all a little out of focus on grainy film stock. Some people nail it every time. Kudos. It's difficult for me.

I'm pretty much a solo artist, but before a new whole album I like to make a template that is my "band". This is Zoe, she plays this particular synth, this is Chloe, she plays this particular drum machine, I'll use this guitar, etc. Establish a small pool of gear and motivations for consistency.
