Each year, two outstanding proposals from the Columbia University MA in Modern and Contemporary Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies program are selected for exhibition at Wallach Art Gallery during its "MODA Curates" series.

The Class of 2027 First Year MFA Exhibition, curated by Erica DiBenedetto and presented in collaboration with the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery, will open on March 29 and present the work of 31 emerging visual and sound artists.

Each year, two outstanding proposals from the Columbia University MA in Modern and Contemporary Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies Program are selected for exhibition at Wallach Art Gallery during its "MODA Curates" series.

Amid the murdering of political dissidents under Pinochet, it was the urgent collective action of wives and daughters that most visibly countered blatant state violence. By circulating images of their loved ones, women strategically used the identification photograph as testimony.

This montage of a rambling man, a young girl exposing domestic violence, Pinochet commemorating the coup, and recordings of a feminist community meeting in the periphery of Santiago explores the interconnectedness of madness, power, and poverty.

Who is allowed to speak? Whose speech is listened to? Examining how language has the capacity to discipline us by compelling socially and politically acceptable behaviors, Rosenfeld and Eltit produced this collage-like video.

Final two weeks to see "Lotty Rosenfeld: Disobedient Spaces," curated by Natalia Brizuela and Julia Bryan-Wilson. The first US retrospective of the acclaimed Chilean artist, which has enjoyed extensive coverage in the art press, will have its last day on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

In 1979, Rosenfeld, alongside artist Juan Castillo, experimental writers Diamela Eltit and Raúl Zurita, and sociologist Fernando Balcells, formed the dissident group Colectivo Acciones de Arte (Collective of Art Actions), or CADA, which means"every" in Spanish.

These archival documents evidence the circulation of Rosenfeld’s work, not only in Chile but internationally, particularly her experimental videos shown in Canada, Australia, Germany, and the United States.

This early collage reveals many of the motifs and materials Lotty Rosenfeld used in her art-actions and videos, including stitching as feminist labor and as connective tissue between seemingly disparate visual elements or concepts.

In her first site-specific action in 1979, Rosenfeld intervened on a Santiago avenue. She placed lengths of white fabric across the painted stripes that divide lanes of traffic, turning lines into crosses.

Reflecting on decades of economic fallout from the Pinochet regime, Rosenfeld takes surveillance footage from a pawn shop in Santiago where customers busily sell their jewelry to pay off debts.

In 2007, Lotty Rosenfeld continued her longstanding interest in printmaking with a series of serigraphs juxtaposing portraits of famous thinkers, feminist writers, radical artists, and revolutionary political figures with vibrant flowers.
