The semifinal was a cagey chess match, and the final was a transitional cocaine bender. it's hard to believe those two games were played by the same Spirit team with just 3 days in between It's fair to say that Club America & Pachuca set the tone of both matches What do the Spirit learn from that?

I want the CONCACAF women's club championship to be an important tournament. But I actually went to one of the games at Audi, and it was the worst soccer experience I've ever had, hands down. Compared to an NWSL league game at Audi, it was atrocious. That needs to change. Top priority.

That game last night was like a whole season in a day. All the mistakes from the first 5 games or so but also all the cool shit from the first part of the season too. Rose going on fire, Sofia scoring from outer space. Sandy making some boss saves. It almost balanced out to a win, but not quite.

In the 2 NWSL finals we lost, I felt pretty hard done by the refs In this final, the ref wasn't great, but she didn't have VAR & didn't decide the game. It helps when it's not a 1-0 game If the Spirit had won, though, I think some handballs she missed might have been a sore point for Club America

I don't think sad is the word. Frustrated is the word. Failing to mark up is a thing I thought we'd gotten past. As is Sandy losing focus late. As is Leicy missing sitters. As is Tara gaffing. As is missing crosses. Too late subbing might be new. All this at once is tough.

We could have won this game. But we made too many defensive mistakes. And our coach held his subs way, way too long. The team has the rest of the regular season to polish their play. The coaching error will be harder to fix because few to no games will challenge like this, until the playoffs.

I honestly do not want to see Deb Abiodun tonight. I'm very glad she's on the bench as a sign of recovery. But returning at altitude in a final with maybe not the best ref just doesn't seem like the best situation. I'd rather wait for a more normal NWSL match.
