Birding, nature, wildlife and photography. What’s not to like! Patch is north Essex
One of two Black-necked Grebes at Abberton this afternoon. Plus some busy Cormorants and a Cattle Egret that was making itself at home with the gulls.

It was a battle of the bills today. I’m not getting into that contest, but I was really pleased to have finally seen my first Glossy Ibis in Essex.

Couldn’t resist popping back to see the Abberton Smew yesterday. They were good enough to not only stick around, but come a little closer.

Abberton’s Red Footed Falcon from today, and it looks like a dragonfly might have evaded capture in image 2. Also witnessed some aerial combat, Green Hairstreak style.

Witnessed some mid air battling between a Raven and Carrion Crow this afternoon in Essex! Once peace was restored, the Raven joined its mate for a chill out. Great to see Ravens so close to home. Safe to say the light wasn’t great for photos!

So nice to be out around the patch in north Essex today in glorious sunshine. Not overly busy but who wouldn’t enjoy the sound of Skylarks singing and Cormorants busily building nests. Spring is so nice.

Took a walk in Colchester Castle Park today and saw Siskin, Kingfisher, Redwing and this rather chilled out Fox. Then a Hen Harrier and an astounding (distant) view of a Great Grey Shrike (lifer) at Copt Hall ended the day.
