D&D is a helpful example of how multiplayer video games work. Players have a client that talks to a server (the DM), sharing the game state. Client Rogue says "I stab the goblin" Wizard says "I cast fireball" Server The DM announces the rogue misses and stabs the Wizard who sets the party on fire
