Just had an enlightenment about CSS View transitions. They are much more powerful than I thought AND much easier to use! You really only have to give your element a unique view-transition-name. This has to be consistent across all pages the element appears on. That’s it!

Observation: Some of the briefings I get sent for potential design/dev projects became much more extensive and detailed in the last 1–2 years, often including adjacent tasks that are not typically part of my service offering. I think this is AI influence.

Another beautiful typeface use: For a class at @uqam.ca, Félix Cloutier created an analog typographic visualization of the 1957 French film comedy “Les Lavandières du Portugal”, using only Indicate Mono. Supervised by Daniel Robitaille of Paprika.

I am genuinely confident that Firefox will soon support cross document view transitions. That will make an enormous difference to overall compatibility. Then it will also soon be possible to detect forward and backward directions without the History or Navigation API.

If you do need it, you can use the navigation API as the modern replacement! developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W...

Clarification: I don’t use Tailwind. By utility classes, I mean custom utility classes written in vanilla CSS.

Class naming in HTML/CSS: I like utility classes, and I’ve been leaning more towards a utility-class-first approach lately. Combining this with a BEM-inspired system for specific blocks works really well for me. #frontend
