This morning we have been learning how to calculate speed,distance and time. For part of our activity we worked in groups to run a short, measured distance we used this and the time it took to calculate the speed 😀🏃‍♀️🏃

Reading homework is available on teams. We have a real focus on fluency, accuracy and expression this term. Maths homework is available on Sumdog with a focus on time, telling the time and calculating durations 😀.

Today we have been working on calculating durations of time, we have used bus timetables to calculate real life journeys. Then created our own towns and cities and calculated how long it would take to get from one area to the other with 1cm=10mins. Lots of discussion and enthusiasm 😀🚍

Sports day tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed the weather holds up. In primary 6 children do not need to wear their house colour, just any sports outfit. As it’s to be a bit colder I would suggest leggings/joggers but just whatever you think will be best for your child. Thank you 😀.

This week we will be focusing on 12 and 24 hour time, calculating durations and reading timetables. If there is any opportunity to practise reading the analogue and digital clock at home, this would be a great help 😀⌚️

We have started to learn about different cultures and religions. This week we have been looking at the Hanami festival which is celebrated in Japan, which celebrates the beauty of the cherry blossom trees. We have now created our own art inspired by this festival 🌸

Over the past few weeks we have been exploring different types of graphs, tables and charts. We now should be able to create and interpret pie charts, frequency tables, bar charts and line graphs 😀.

A great first morning back. We headed out into the sunshine to practise our photography skills. We focused on the rule of thirds and perspective. I am blown away by the photographs that everyone has taken. These were taken on our class iPads, we would love to share them with you at home 😀📸!

So proud of every single child that took part today. They were absolutely fantastic!! I hope you all enjoyed the show. Have a great holiday and I will see everyone in two weeks time for the last term of Primary 6 ⭐️!

Our Opera performance is tomorrow . We are all really excited. Parent and carer performance will start at 2.15⭐️😀.

Easter Bonnet competition in full swing 😀🐣

During writing lessons we have been focusing on the features of playscripts and have even created our own which are on our iPads if you would like to see 😀.

Over the past few weeks we have been looking at algebra, different types of angles, properties and naming different types of triangles, compass points and coordinates 😀⭐️.

Today we are taking part in a drama lesson based on the Great Fire of London. Lots of opportunity to show our creativity and to build our confidence 😀.

In honour of International Women’s day we looked at the work of an artist named Amanda Alien Niday who has created a series of images supporting women’s rights and shared our interpretations of what these images stand for. We also started some art work which focuses on the power of words☀️😀.

We have been exploring colour theory by looking at Kandisnkys circles. We have then used our art work within maths by measuring the radius and then using this to calculate the diameter and circumference.🎨⚪️🖍️

Tomorrow is world book day! If there is anyone who would like to bring in a book from home to share, that would be great. We are also attending the book fair tomorrow and will have another opportunity on Monday 😊📚!

We are nearing the end of our class novel. Today we have been focusing on reading aloud to others. We have spoken about fluency, tone and expression. Any chance to read aloud and practise this skill at home would be a great help. 📚!

Over the past few weeks we have been focusing on financial education, during this time we have been looking at Profit and Loss. Today we created a theme park and calculating the profits and loss, then working out the overall profit after a week 😊⭐️!

A reminder that it is our class reward afternoon. A letter was sent home last week. Children can bring in a small but free snack and comfy clothes to change into if they would like 😊⭐️!

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. The main focus is “This is My Place” which is based around belonging. We have created maps of a land full of things that make us feel like we belong 😊☀️.

Writing Competition

This morning we have been lucky enough to take part in a Generation Science workshop all about energy transfer and renewable electricity generation. This afternoon we are working in pairs to crate a marble run, focusing on kinetic energy to knock down standing domino’s 😊⭐️

We are in full preparation for our Scottish Opera performance later this term. Any chance to practise at home would be a fantastic help 😊!

Today we have been using our budgeting skills to find a holiday for a family of four. Lots of great discussion and some amazing deals found. 🕶️☀️

Over the past two weeks we have been learning about financial education. Today we competed a Nando’s task where we had a set budget and we had to come up with different meal options for different sizes of groups and check to see if this fit with our budget.💷🍗

Each week we will be having a “Secret Reader” come along to our library session. This week it was Mr Crawford. I am hoping to open this up to family members in the next few months. Look out for an email for details on how to sign up 😊📚.

Today we have been exploring negative numbers and where we might see them in real life contexts. We spent time researching temperatures. We then went outside to create number lines to help us add and subtract negative numbers 😊⭐️.

We have been discussing and looking at different artists who created paintings of landscapes. We then created our own landscape art pieces, inspired by the view from outside our classroom 😊⭐️.

This week with in writing we created poems that followed a specific rhyme scheme. We planned our rhyming pairs, chose our rhyme scheme and created our own poems. If we had time we up-levelled this work 😊⭐️.

This week we have been exploring BODMAS. We even had a go at a BODMAS escape room where we had to work in teams to solve different problems to escape before the hour was up 😊⭐️.

We have decided as a class that we are going to read for at least ten minutes everyday in class. We have chosen a comfy spot and are ethier reading our class novel, a book from home or using our iPads to read online through Borrow box or Epic 😊📚

Paper copies of the spelling and reading homework have been sent home today.The maths homework will by available on Sumdog from 4 o’clock today 😊

Today we have been doing revision on factors and multiples. I have uploaded a game on to teams that will help with practise, if there is any opportunity to play this at home that would be a great help. We are also focusing on the 7 times table this week 😊.

We will shortly be starting a project about Scotland. Today we started by checking if our surnames were linked to a tartan then we designed our own tartan. We focused on the use of line to create a pattern. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This morning we have started a joint project with Primary 5 to come up with ideas to revamp our quiet room. We are currently in the planning stages and hope to complete this over term 3 😊.

This week we have started a block on poetry. Our focus was thinking about the language we could use. We recapped similes, synonyms and rhyme and then created poems about our favourite food or drink. Our poems did not need to rhyme if we didn’t want it to⭐️.

Yesterday we took part in a STEM challenge where we had to create a Santa sleigh and a slope. We spoke about friction and forces and had to use our knowledge of measurement to calculate how far Santa travelled 😊🎅🏼!
