at some point it seems all the social media sites i use went from posts with the vibe of "im posting to the internet" to "im posting to my special friend group" even though the actual interaction between poster and reader didnt change, just parasociality with people you dont know

While I'm on this I find it very weird everyone's discussing these "tricks" they think Trump might use to run for a third term. I don't think he will, but if Trump decides to run for a third term here's how he'll do it: he'll announce he's running for a third term and Republicans will let him.

local election voting closing at 12 midday is insane considering general election voting closes 7 hours later and its not nearly advertised enough, most people probably assume its the same - wonder how many people rocked up to drop off a ballot or special vote only to be told it had closed

This is great. Also, let’s do away with private election companies. They continue to do a garbage job and excluding Māori candidates from the booklet this year was unforgivable.

Ok after an afternoon of results, texts, calls, messages on other apps and emails, I have some thoughts on today’s Local Election results 1) Voter turnout is depressing. 32%ish on average across AoNZ is pathetic. 2) The Māori Wards referendum should never have happened - it was a racebaiting farce…

actually surprising to me that it seems the māori ward referendums haven't driven turnout, most places seem to be about where they were in 2022. or maybe it has driven turnout and without it we'd be doing even worse?

Totally, crazy that Auckland has basically the same system of local govt as a small town Akld elections should be seen as nationally important, over 1/3 of the country lives there. For that to happen it needs proper westminster-style democracy imo
