I have a story that gets into this coming, but it's kind of hard to describe how ubiquitous the ICE/DHS presence is in Minneapolis — and, in turn, how pervasive the community pushback has become. In certain parts of the city, evidence of either — or both — are just, like, everywhere you look.

NEW: My dispatch from *inside* Minnesota's Whipple building today (the facility where ICE has rooted its operations in the region), where a group of clergy attempted to offer pastoral care to immigrant detainees. They were denied — an emerging national pattern. religionnews.com/2026/01/13/f...

Still singing: “we grieve together, stop the deportations.”

Many harmonies as they sing “we have been burned, burned by the fire/ and we are ashes, ashes and smoke/ and we will rise higher and higher/ on the wings of compassion, justice and hope.”

As the sing, one participant holds a sign that reads “Jesus was an immigrant, stop ICE.” People drive by honking in support, prompting cheers.

At a church in Minneapolis that is hosting an anti-ICE singing vigil, which will later process through the neighborhood. They sing: “This is for our neighbors who are locked inside, together we will abolish ICE.”
