Man, the third game on the Adventure Player, Hako no Naka, is really hard to penetrate. There's like a dozen menu options, some of which lead to another half dozen sub-options, just for some of them to hide a third layer of options. I yearn for having just like ten multi-purpose verbs please.

I was today years old when I found out Japan made a Cube remake... in 2021 no less. It's pretty Ok as long as it stays true to the simplistic mysterious original, but then has to add things which are all for the worse.

Tora-san Loves an Artist (1973) has a less well defined love interest compared to previous movie's Lily, but it's nice that for once she acknowledges Tora's feelings instead of being willfully obtuse to them.

Re-finished Resident Evil 4 Remake. Still very good. But that Krauser Ruins part is a pain in the ass. Honestly my only negative for both this and the OG is that I wish the island was shorter, it's when the game starts to drag for me.

World 2 done. Samurai's Iainuki Skill is all-enemy-targeting chance to instakill if they aren't heavy. Putting this on all 4 means 90% of random encounters die in round 1 and even extends to some none-heavy bosses like the Dragon Pod or the usually problematic Guardian Crystals #FF5FJF2026

Whispering Corridors 6: The Humming. This was one of the better entries, playing out like a normal Whispering Corridors for 80 minutes, including an expected resolution, just to then go on for another 30 minutes that re-contextualizes everything that happened previously.

Tora-san's Forget Me Not (1973) introduces us to singer Lily, played by Asaoka Ruriko, who's a bit of a soul mate to Tora. She's one of the most popular Madonnas (think Bond Girl) and will reprise her role several times during the franchises 50 movie run.

Sherlock Holmes: The Evil's Daughter plays almost exactly like Crimes & Punishments, but is the first time they re-designed Sherlock to be younger and more rugged looking, before turning him into the most fuckable twink for Chapter One.

Dead Space Remake done. There is some cool stuff here and I like the setting... but the loud scream-in-your-face non-scary kind of horror isn't really for me.

"Unlike [popular thing everyone is talking about] I instead am doing..." no, stop, you are so boring. Tell me about the thing you enjoy without having to shit on another thing people are enjoying, you aren't that special and it's such an unattractive trait.

Decided to watch the Slayers OVAs and I'm quite surprised there are only 6 episodes. With there being 3 TV seasons and 5 movies throughout the 90s, I always assumed there'd be more than that on the OVA front too.

Tora-san's Dream Come True (1972). Ten movies in, we break a little with the typical formular. Tora doesn't hopelessly fall in love for once and instead tries to help his childhood friend get with someone, while missing his own chance in the process.

Not until watching my first show recently that adapts a danmei novel but was shown across mainland China, thus having to give the gay romance always the plausible deniability that maybe they are just roommates, was I aware just how directly you can say things indirectly, haha.

Did a quick romp through House of the Dead Remake. It's ok I guess, can't complain when it was like 2.50€, but maybe it's not quite my genre of game to begin with. I suppose I'm more of a Typing of the Dead kind of guy.

The kinda stories that get me personally more than when some big dramatic thing is ripping people suddenly apart is the "for a short window in time our lives overlapt and it was great... but then life moved on" kind of slow death of (romantic or not) relationships.

As someone who obsessive compulsively checks the map every 5 steps in these games, this is the best version for having it always on display on the top screen alone.

A flawlessly animated 90s style 60 minute OVA by Madhouse based on a 20 volume manga/light novel series that reduces it to sheer vibes, mood and spectacle could heal me right now.

Time Mages can equip and thus break rods, making 90% of the remaining bosses in World 1 easy. For Sandworm the Beastmaster releases a Dhorme Chimera to cast 2.5k damage Aqua Breath, for Archaeoaevis we release the Aegier/Ronkan Knight combo to basically instakill it. Saiko no Seito: Yomei 1-nen no Last Dance fin. Hikari enters her 3rd year of high school with a mission: Make it the happiest year ever and leave a positive mark on those close to her, knowing she'll die before the year's over. Exactly my type of bittersweet tragic hope-core.

Tora-san's Love Call (1971). The neat thing about these movies is how grounded they are. Tiny windows into the life of its characters. The traveling theatre group that's a dying breed in 70s Japan, having to return home to a mother's funeral, the dollar shock leading to economic anxiety.

Castlevania (X68k) Chronicles for #RandomGameSaturday

I ended up really liking Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. Good story, different moral conclusions to the cases, fun gameplay (turn on combat skip), the town they crafted is a pretty setting and they really like to go for creative camera angles and scene blocking in the cutscenes.

Twink death this, twink death that. And here's Furukawa Yuki at the ripe age of 38 regularly looking younger than his 20-something co-stars. Clearly it's just a skill issue.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S - Episode 21: "The Death of Uranus and Neptune? The Talisman Appears." Directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara

Didn't know what to expect from a 2h(!) film based on a concept as short and simple as Iron Lung. Or one directed, written and acted by a professional Youtube clown. Turns out it's a very Ok movie that's def too long.

Played Walk the Frog. A short, cute, little puzzle game where you put the pieces of the world together... and have a frog make friends and find love!

I hope the new Castlevania is like the previous Metroidvanias in the franchise, a.k.a piss easy, I'm tired of struggling with Soulslike Metroidvanias. Katsuya Terada supremacy tho \[T]/

Onimusha Demo was fun, but man that boss is super quick. As someone who only played the very first game, there are a lot more mechanics to keep in mind in this new one. Can't wait to forget and never use half of them in the full game like when I play Souls.

Tora-san, the Good Samaritan (1971) is probably the film that so far has the least going on outside of the usual doomed romance - which this time almost happens! But I do miss the view into the problems the supporting cast is facing.

There is something admirable about the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games. They usually don't get any press outside of the Adventure Gaming niche, they don't even review particularly well, but they've been fully dedicated to keep making them for over two decades now.
