No reference. Just toned the paper with graphite, added line with pencil, and used a kneaded rubber for highlights.

Practiced some portraits during the week. Compared to some earlier attempts, there are things that started to click with proportions.

October 2023 I was working with a tortillon, kneaded rubber, and Blackwing Matte pencil in a Moleskin sketchbook. I wanted to see if I could use value to create form and replicate the muscle mass. This was still fairly early in my slow return to make attempts at art consistently again.

At it again

Late night mental wind-down

Just new-boot goofin’. Random sketches on the page to hopefully stir the mind into a focused piece.

Been busier the last few weeks, so I haven’t gotten much completed. Just enough to stay familiar with my pencil.

Still squeezing in some practice. The year has been a bit out of control, so hopefully I can get in the mindset of working on some pieces. Some line practice the last couple of weeks

Trying to keep the coordination as much as possible. It’s been a challenging couple of months, and I haven’t drawn consistently over the last few weeks. Just needed to see if I could capture the movement.

Much wider tooth to the paper when trying to scan or photograph, but I still like how it turned out in person.

Crouching pose

Started the top-left pose last week with a light tough and 2H pencil. Very loose. Decided to add a couple more poses and render a bit.

This came together faster than I imagined

I drew this pose from memory last year after a first attempt. Going to see how I fill up this sketchbook.

Used some parchment paper a few weeks ago and viewed a reference I purchased from @grafitstudio.bsky.social This is from the Battle Heroine set. I needed practice with foreshortening, and this set has plenty of poses.
