Too often, our budget tries to fund schools with a one-size-fits-all model. But the reality is a school in Detroit doesn’t have the same needs as a school in Alpena. When we ignore those differences, it’s our kids who feel the burden.

Educators across Michigan are speaking out because they don’t know what resources their schools will have this year. That’s the result of Republicans in Lansing dragging out the budget and treating it like political theater instead of real lives at stake. Our schools need stability, not delays

Today’s child care costs are unaffordable and unsustainable. My plan as governor is simple: Cut red tape to build more daycare options that help lower costs & expand programs like Rx Kids that give new parents the money they need to take care of their babies.

The news cycle changes on a whim and the issues Michiganders are facing continue to grow, so today I sat down for our first episode of: Kitchen Table Issues. Today we’re talking Michigan’s state budget that could force me to lay off over 400 people in my department, with many more workers at risk.

King Mahabali’s vision was one of fairness, justice, and equality—a golden age where everyone lived with dignity and prosperity. We all want the same things: for our loved ones to be happy, safe, and nearby, neighborhoods where our kids can grow up safely, and for our freedoms to remain intact.

Every day I hear from workers in my office who are anxious about whether they’ll be able to put food on the table because our legislators still haven’t come up with a budget. In my office alone, we would have to lay off over 400 people. These public servants should be celebrated, not laid off.

24 years ago, our nation endured an unthinkable tragedy. We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders and passengers whose bravery shone through the darkest of days.

What happened to Charlie Kirk today is unimaginable and horrifying. It doesn’t matter who you voted for or what your beliefs are, there’s no justification for violence of any kind.

As governor, I’ll make sure workers have a real seat at the table. That means standing up to short-sighted cuts, listening to what you’re facing on the job, and putting your voices at the center of decisions that shape our future.

It’s past time we pass a state budget that will drive down the cost of living and make people’s lives easier, but that takes serious proposals, not estimates based on inaccurate data and fuzzy math.   We can cut wasteful spending and make government more efficient without hurting people.

Our healthcare system is too often defined by broken bureaucracy and corporate greed instead of compassion and care. Michigan families deserve a healthcare system that works for them, not against them.

My son and kids across Michigan are heading back to school and his teachers and administrators still don’t have a budget. Free school meals could disappear after September 30, teachers don’t know what kind of materials they’ll be able to provide to help students succeed.

My responsibility is, and always will be, to the people of Michigan. To ensure every election is fair and secure. That every voice is heard and every vote is counted. To protect your rights and freedom, no matter who you are or where you live.

This morning my family and I got up early and joined hundreds of others in Owosso for the 10th annual run/walk in honor of PFC Shane Cantu who was killed in action on 2012 in Afghanistan.   The community that run with us on this day are so important in keeping his memory alive!

It was a joy to celebrate one of Michigan’s sweetest traditions at the National Blueberry Festival in South Haven, and connect with so many incredible people over the weekend.

It’s National Black Business Month, so today was the perfect excuse to grab something sweet from one of my favorite Detroit spots, Good Cakes and Bakes. Huge shoutouts to April and Michelle Anderson who have built an incredible business and make the best cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and cakes ever!!

Van Buren Dems are fired up! If we want to keep moving Michigan forward, we need to go everywhere—especially the beautiful lake towns ;)—to ensure places like South Haven and everywhere across Michigan are thriving.

I want Michigan to be the best place to call home, and that includes expanding our transit systems. Reliable transit connects people to jobs, supports small businesses, cuts pollution, and brings our communities closer. Let’s start investing in it.

Blueberries + Meeting energized Michiganders = A perfect Michigan weekend. I had a blast with my family celebrating the blueberry farmers who help make Michigan summers so sweet.

We began this journey over six months ago, launching a campaign to ensure everyone has a fair shot to thrive in Michigan. That means affordable housing, quality public schools, and a health care system that is accessible to all.

Today, on Purple Heart Day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of those who were wounded or gave their life in service to our country. My husband is a combat veteran who served in the Army. I’ve seen the lasting impact military service can have, on those who serve, and on their families.

As the wife of a combat veteran, this news is outrageous. Our country leans on federal workers who care for our veterans every day and now their rights are under attack. Stripping their protections is not just wrong, it’s a betrayal to what we should stand for.

Today marks the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a victory born from the bravery of those who marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Now that fight comes to Michigan not just for voting rights, but for the economic wellbeing of our people.

I had a wonderful time at the Troy Dems Picnic and the Ann Arbor Pride Festival yesterday, two incredible events where I heard from folks who care deeply about protecting our rights, strengthening our communities, and ensuring every Michigander has the freedom to thrive.

August is National Wellness Month, a time to recognize that true wellness goes beyond self-care. Wellness for Michiganders means access to affordable healthcare, mental health support, clean air and water, and safe communities. These aren’t privileges, they’re basic needs.

60 years ago, the Democratic Party made a promise with Medicare and Medicaid, that every American deserves access to health care. Today, republicans push plans that would gut coverage and shut down hospitals across Michigan. Health care is a right and I’ll never stop fighting to protect it.

I’m so grateful for all the support across the state, conversation by conversation, city by city. Whether it’s a mom fighting for her kids’ future, a union worker protecting the dignity of their labor, or a young person stepping into civic life for the first time, I’m standing with all of you.

For many Michiganders, Planned Parenthood is the only option for annual exams, STI treatment, and cancer screenings, and nearly half of their patients rely on Medicaid. I’m grateful federal judges are stepping up as the last line of defense to ensure everyone gets the healthcare they need.

Kicked off my Saturday with an inspiring group of Detroiters at RUNDetroit. Running helps keep me grounded and focused on the work ahead, so it was energizing to log six miles with this crew and hear firsthand how government can better serve them.

After a massive week for our campaign, I stopped by the Washtenaw Democrats Garden Party and the CD11 Dems Big Tent BBQ yesterday to enjoy a beautiful Summer day with and hear directly from the people driving change in our communities.
