Do you enjoy good haunted Irish house (hotel in this case) movies that do not go where you expect? Then may I recommend Hokum, which is well crafted, has high-quality jump scares, great scenery, and of course theres that plot which, like I say, unexpected. I loved the well portrayed main character.

Do you enjoy plain, cozy, and simplistic sci-fi thrillers that don’t always make a huge amount of consistent sense? Then may I recommend Elevation, a film with “murder bugs” as one character termed it. It has all you need: reluctant hero, maverick scientist, sick child, mcguffan, and flat dialogue.

Only two episodes are up so far but I’m already sold. Check it out!

Do you enjoy *five-hour-long* documentaries about a John Carpenter’s The Thing, featuring extensive interviews with a wide variety of cast and crew? Then may I recommend The Thing Expanded, which I saw in one sitting and I can actually envision seeing again. Really great work. Learned a *lot.*

Do you enjoy intense survival thrillers—but don’t suffer from either fear of heights or crushing spaces? Then may I recommend the simultaneous woman vs. nature vs. murderer Apex (2026), which will get you to tense up and be nervous to even climb stairs. Simple plot—best for this genre, really.

For no reason I can at all fathom, I’ve started naming my sleeping positions. So far I have: • Elfin • Elfin with Chimney • Four (see also Four Locked) • Straight (which isn’t really) And so on. They don’t make sense to me either, but there it is. 😄

Do you enjoy tense original revenge thrillers where everyone involved is an amateur who doesn’t know what they’re doing—which adds yet even more tension everywhere? Then may I recommend Blue Ruin, a film that is tight and focused and will hold you from start to last scene.

Do you enjoy high quality low quality monster movies that don’t have any room for a plot because of all the close calls and chomped victims? Then may I recommend Thrash, which has a surprising budget and some nice SFX, but brings nothing more to the surface than a smorgasbord of cheap thrills.

Do you enjoy crime thrillers (not heist) with moving parts and a well-acted ensemble that’s a bit poorly paced? Then may i recommend Crime 101, which is engaging but could’ve done with a bit of a tightening trim to get the minutes down and keep things sharp. Anyway, good acting carries it.

More than any other feature #Blizzard could make for #WoW, I would appreciate roleplaying mechanisms the most. I’m not super sure what I would specifically want (though I do have some ideas) I feel this area has always been lacking. Put the RP in MMORPG, I say.

Tonight, on an all-new #Dn— nope! No more D&D! We’re playing #Brindlewood Bay, the sinister murder murder mystery game! Tonight was session zero, character creation. Next week, the pilot episode: “Dad Overboard,” starring Pearl, Maxine, Rose, Opal, Ruth, and Earnestine—the Murder Mavens!

Super dense fog this morning—zombie leper pirates are sure to be out and about. Don’t answer the door and keep pets inside! ☁️🧟‍♂️🦠⚓️

Do you enjoy masterworks of big budget Hollywood smart sci-fi thrillers? Then may I recommend Project Hail Mary which does everything well. It marries hard sci-fi with soft expertly, has funny moments that’re not too much, and I guarantee will make you weepy-eyed more than once. It’s a great watch.

Do you enjoy super good French Quebec crime drama movies? Then may I recommend Red Rooms, which is super good. The acting, writing, and directing all come together to elegantly hide the main character’s motivation. The not knowing makes it different kinds of movies at once. Well done.

Do you enjoy ponderously slow Olga Kurylenko movies? Then may I recommend Other, which spends the first 75% setting up the last 10%. I’m not even sure where the other parts went. It’s an easily guessed mystery, and a bit nonsense. Olga Kurylenko does spend an unnecessary amount in her underwear tho.

Do you enjoy cops vs demon in urban decay found footage movies? Then may I recommend Bodycam (2025) which is made of things you’ve seen before but starts hard and wastes no time. You’ll find rather standard fare that doesn’t have usual disappointments—which is good if that’s what you’re looking for.

Do you enjoy movies that throw away a creepy premise? Then may I recommend The Mortuary Assistant which starts well and pretends it will get more interesting but instead kills that idea right quick and devolves into the scary movie equivalent of oatmeal. I mean, you could consume it…but why?

Do you enjoy simple human-vs-aliens action films? Then may I recommend War Machine (2026), whose mechanical monster is very teenager-drew-in-study-hall but nevertheless the movie has a good premise, good action, is appropriately tense, and a not-terrible main character. Good popcorn fare.

1.25-hour drive home from work tonight. Ergh. ☹️

Do you like ridiculously low energy prequels with dialogue more wooden than a forest? Then may I recommend Hope Valley 1874, which I was looking forward to but found it cringe to watch. No one on screen is excited to be there—their faces say they all regret their decision. Don’t blame ‘em.

#DnD campaign concluded! My second character survived until the very end! We won! Tomb of Annihilation—it took us actual years (sometimes meeting only once a month tho). Next week, I begin running a new-to-me short murder mystery campaign of Brindlewood Bay. 😃

Do you enjoy scary movies with an interesting gimmick? Then may I recommend Undertone, a movie that *critically must* be heard in a theater or on headphones when it comes to streaming. Cast of two, only one of whom speaks. Rest is off screen—often with no visual cues. Scary but questionable finish.

Do you enjoy violent revenge sequels? Then may I recommend Wrath of Becky, the sequel to Becky. It’s less hyperviolent the the original but just as good. And it sets up well for a third—which has just finished filming. Can’t wait!

Do you enjoy well directed hyper violent 13-y/o-vs-home-invading-thugs movies? Then may I recommend the hyper violent Becky, a film that’s just what it says on the tin. There’s a Becky, some thugs—and an equal amount of Hyper Violence. Kudos also for stars playing against type.

What th’?! It’s snowing!! Took one photo (of street) and one snapshot (of bunny!) of today’s #Seattle #Snowpocalypse before sunrise. Crazy! Did not expect this a’tall. ❄️

Do you enjoy time travel thrillers? Then may I recommend The Call (2020—Korean version), where two women talk 20 years past/present via specific phone. Best you go in with only that. Loved how film handles continuity. *Critical* you stay for credits. I watched this again immediately after it ended.

So I (by osmosis we) just watched the first F1 race of the 2026 season. I’m new to sports. It was…fine? Definitely not something to actively pay attention to throughout (as I did, to see what it was like). Instead, best enjoyed while doing something else, like gaming, or just highlights later.

Do you enjoy period piece speculative chaotic focused against-type romances? Then may I recommend The Bride, which telegraphs an unusual journey in the first dialogue. It’s made of adjectives: new, unusual, unexpected, strong, well acted, well directed, well scripted, musical, serious—horrific.
