Was sitting in a brewery in Harrisonburg with the fam yesterday when news of Bobby’s passing hit my phone from a friend. As we were in the middle of some needed family time, I didn’t get a chance to really digest it. Finally getting a chance to reflect this evening by revisiting some GD tunes (1/2)

Took the family on a hike yesterday. What will now be referred to as the Old Rag Death March. Pretty sure the wife contacted a divorce attorney on the walk down. Good times had by some. Monster of a trek though. 10 miles and 2400’ of elevation gain with serious rock scrambling. Recovery today.

Whittled it down to my Great 8. Kind of an eclectic group in that I’m surprised there’s none of what I would consider the Goose Heavyweights… Madh, Hungersite, Dripfield, Wys, Thatch, etc. I seemed to gravitate towards the bass heavy grooves this year. No Goontz and no “evil” Goose.

There’s no chance this makes it past Westville AIN in general voting. But in my bracket it moves forward and maybe wins the whole thing. No other piece of music played in 2025 makes me happier faster and gets me off my ass and dancing better than this ascendant build to a glorious end.

Ridiculously sneaky good Hungersite that I think should be a higher seed.

Not sure how far this makes it as a 10-seed but this EoA is one of my favorite journeys of the year.

Man, I miss some of the old tones and takes on these Goose “classics”. The spaces they hit in this early Madhuvan are so good. As much as I loathe JOTY season, a 2019 effort would be a lot of fun.

Watching Terrapin Family Band on Nugs. Turns out mashups of Casey Jones with Floyd’s “Eclipse” and Friend of the Devil with Nirvana’s “Lithium” were exactly the musical bastardizing I didn’t know I needed. Gonna have to check out Otiel’s mashup now too I guess

As I’ve been relistening to my favorites is 2025, one thing is becoming abundantly clear. Goose got really good a maximizing jam time. Meaning the amount of quality jams that occurred in sub 20’ (and even 18’) tune went waaaay up in 2025. This Thatch was one of them.

Sneaky good bass driven jam in this No Rain. What Trevor starts around with at the 7:30 mark, dials I’m on thirty seconds later, really leads where we end up at the end. Love this jam.

Just embarrassed my daughter by dancing out in the open of my own living room to this total groooove from Thatch from the Factory 2025.

Spent time tonight with wife and daughter watching Chris Thile play and slay Bach on a mandolin. Dude is simply amazing player. Mixed in a couple tunes from Nickel Creek and a few solo tunes. Wish it more bluegrass but definitely not disappointed watching him play.

Taking a deep Goose sabbatical to catch up on other stuff. Yesterday was JRAD day. Today I’m diving back into Eggy. Stoked they’re getting to tour with one of my (and their) musical heroes in Bruce Hornsby. Hope they’re getting some sit-ins with him and the Noisemakers.

Goodness. I freaking love baseball. O’s 1 out from being no-hit and then end up walking off with a 4-3 win in the 9th. Disappointing season in Baltimore this year but the boys are having some fun right now. Been fun to watch.

Happy finds this morning. As I’ve taken over the rec room as my new home office since the kids are gone, I’ve found some old CDs I thought were long gone. Super stoked to find my Gibb Droll stash, including the elusive “Live” album. Also discovered he just put a new album out on Spotify. LFG!
