On this day 5 years ago I hiked to see (& paint) the #eruption in Fagradalsfjall. What an experience! You could feel the heat, hear the lava rocks as they shifted & tumbled. Wow it was 5 years ago today that the #eruption in Fagradalsfjall Iceland began, and with it my Volcano a Day project! I painted 100 paintings of the eruption following its amazing growth & change. This was a lot of fun, perhaps a tad tiring lol but worth it! #iceland #landscape #art #throwback

🔎🎨Get up close to my latest painting ‘ Strolling through the lava channel’. I love the crazy rock formations formed from the lava. I applied the paint thickly with various brushes & knives to get more interesting textures for these rocky areas. #landscapepainting #iceland #oilpainting #scape #art

It's important to me to experience the places I paint. On location the weather & light greatly influences the landscape at that moment. On my visit to Búrfellsgjá the sun was out and created a very different scene with half of the channel covered in shade. #oilpainting #iceland #art #scape

With everything being digital these days I find it especially refreshing to unplug and step outside. When I do – it’s such a wonderful feeling! On location I make small studies, gathering first hand how I felt, the colours I saw, how the light and weather affected the scene in that very moment.
