Whoops! I missed mentioning the Sidewalk Program in my recap for tomorrow’s meeting. It’s buried in the Consent Agenda but will likely get some discussion. Most of the locations are in walking/running distance from my house so I checked them out before the September TAB meeting.

I wasn't surprised by the ULI 5th Ave presentation. It was underwhelming, but that’s not a bad thing. Council Chambers was filled. People are paying attention & like being included in the process. What happens next? After ULI delivers the final report, Council will discuss. I see it moving slowly.

9/11/2001 is as vivid to me today as it was 24 years ago. I watched the TV coverage from my office building next door to the Sears Tower. After the second tower fell, building management evacuated the building. The silence on the El ride home to Lakeview was deafening. Our world had changed.

Next stop, Council Chambers! On Wednesday night (9/10 7pm), ULI will present their recommendations for the city-owned land around the 5th Avenue Train Station. I look forward to hearing their answers to the questions Council gave them.

Tonight’s PZC will be the first of (at least) 2 meetings about the proposed Data Center on the Lucent site. The petitioner will make their full presentation, with public comment after that. PZC won’t deliberate until the public comment is closed, so there should be no vote tonight.

A beautiful morning to Tri something fun! The Naperville Sprint Triathlon starts with the swim in Centennial Beach (a bit annoying, but over quickly), bike along West & Rickert, and run on Jefferson/River/Aurora. Watch for road closures!

Yet again, the Halal Festival did not disappoint. Last year, It was over 90F & the organizers prayed for 75F and sunny. The weather this weekend is perfect. Halal Fest is about food & living with integrity. It highlights the diversity that makes Naperville the community it is. (Love the camels.)

Tonight at 6pm is an energy workshop to hear options for Naperville’s long-term energy procurement. Each speaker has 30 minutes, with Q&A from council after each topic. It’s gonna be a long night.

Yesterday's storm caused power outages and road blockages. A big thank you to Public Works and Electric Utility crews for immediately getting out to restore power and clean up debris.

We ended the Council meeting at 12:05 am this morning. Here’s a rundown: 1. 35 speakers signed up for Public Forum, all but 3 were IMEA related (9 in favor of IMEA, 17 for exploring other options). The other 3? eBike safety, ban on Tesla Robotaxi, testing water supply for medical abortion drugs.

I joined over 100 residents last night for a 5th Avenue Train Station panel session in what was a L-O-N-G day for the ULI volunteers. Two questions John Talty (ULI Chair) asked us were, “How do we get residents to trust this process?” and “What do you want to see in this space?”

On Tuesday, we moved forward on the discussion about energy procurement. It might not have satisfied everyone 100% but it had unanimous support. Yes, we will have a workshop. We’ll define the strategy, hear from consultants, and analyze other options.

Over the next year, the 85-year old water tower adjacent to the 5th Avenue train station is going to be replaced and moved. I was super worried about the fate of the red tailed hawk family nesting on the stairs at the top, so I reached out to the Water Utility Director.

I was approved to be the Council liaison to the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) at last night’s Council meeting. There are two items on Thursday’s agenda. 1. Historic District parking restriction cleanup. This is to bring things in line with city ordinances.

In my 21 years in Naperville, I’ve only missed a couple of Memorial Day parades. I’ve been in it 8 times- as a GS leader (walking backwards twice while leading call-and-answer chants) & Councilwoman. I always enjoy riding with my fellow council members as we remember and honor our veterans.

“Remember the dead by helping the living.” I spent the morning attending ceremonies honoring Naperville veterans who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. Please pause for one minute at 3pm for the National Moment of Remembrance.
