2/2 The National Day for Truth & Reconciliation calls us to reflect with honesty on the 94 recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission – how far we have come over the last decade & the distance yet to be travelled in our collective path of reconciliation. #NDTR

On Sept 30th, we pause for the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. We remember the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, & their families & communities. Public commemoration of this history is a vital part of the reconciliation process.

The Polish Emigration Memorial Society held an unveiling ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. The monument commemorates the brotherhood of arms of the Polish & Canadian Navy servicemen who participated and lost their lives in this operation.

The Dr. Susan K. Roberts Lodge that Gives celebrated its 35th anniversary at Gov House yesterday afternoon. The Lodge provides a home away from home for individuals in NS that must travel to Halifax for cancer treatments. Staff provide comfortable rooms, meals & support programs.

The LtGov was happy to attended the Sipekne'katik Mawio'mi (pow wow). Sipekne’katik is one of the 7 geographic districts of Mi’kma’ki. The community (commonly known as Indian Brook or Shubenacadie First Nation) reclaimed its traditional name, meaning where wild potatoes grow.

Members of the German Canadian Association of Nova Scotia attended a lunch at Government House yesterday afternoon. This was an opportunity to speak with the Lieutenant Governor about academic exchanges, language education, and exchanges of culture between Nova Scotian and Germany.

The Lieutenant Governor hosted a reception for the Aga Khan Ismaili Council for Canada at Gov House. The Council's work promotes gender equality, education, healthcare initiatives, and sustainable environmental practices.

The LtGov was sad to learn of the passing of The Hon. Donald H. Oliver. A trailblazer, advocate & founder of the Black Cultural Centre for NS, he leaves a lasting legacy of service, equity, and justice. Condolences to Senator Oliver's family, friends, and all who mourn his loss.

This week, Their Honours were hosted by Her Honour the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of AB, at the annual conference of the Gov General, LtGovs, & Territorial Commissioners. The Vice Regal representatives attended meetings, hearing a wide variety of presentations.

1/2 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth, and to mark this occasion, Her Honour attended Jane Austen in the Public Gardens. The event, hosted by the Halifax Public Gardens & the Jane Austen Society of North America, NS Region, featured readings from Austen's work.

2/2 The celebration also tied to the release of The Austens, by local novelist Sarah Emsley. The cover features the 19th-century painting "Gov House from the S.W." by J.E. Woolford. Fanny Austen & her husband danced at a ball at Gov House in 1810, a featured scene in the novel.

We were happy to welcome Will Brewer, Town Crier, to Government House, as portions of a documentary about his work and contributions to the province were filmed on site. The doc will be released by Christopher Martin with Cranky Pants Productions next year.

The LtGov attended the Bangladesh Community Association of Nova Scotia Asian Cup T20 Final, a cricket match held at Don Bayer Sports Field. In addition to athletic excellence, the event celebrated multiculturalism in #NovaScotia.

Georges Island National Historic Site, located in Halifax Harbour, holds an important place in Mi'kmaq, Acadian, & military history. Their Honours were happy to tour the island with Parks Canada staff and explore the rich history connected to this unique location.
