Love the Catholic Social Teaching window at St. John’s in Utica, featuring Pope Leo XIII holding Rerum Novarum, which talks about the right of workers to form unions. At the the bottom are workers of various kinds and in the middle are union members and management reaching an accord.

When I was a kid, I loved to spend hours looking at maps and atlases, such as the Italian Touring Club 1:200.000 Road Atlas, and I was always mesmerized by the shape of mountain roads and railways, particularly the Sardinian narrow gauge network and its jagged shape.

This chart summarizes the main laws passed by the Italian Parliament to fund the modernization effort of the railways in the postwar years, from the late 1950s to the late 1980s. TL;DR: The effort has been constant, with some long underlying trends. HSR comes last, as the cherry on the cake.
