Always a lovely feeling to get edits for a book done. I’m going to have a long weekend of no work now* *or try to, depending on whether or not my brain lets me.

Cross season 2 was all over the place story wise. Plots that didn’t really need to be in the season, and a disappointing end episode, complete with some serious shark jumping, made the whole thing pretty silly. Matthew Lillard was brilliant though.

Watched Wanted: Dead or Alive for the first time this millennia. A 1987 film with Rutger Hauer as an ex-cia bounty hunter. It has Gene Simmons as a middle-eastern terrorist. It’s aged terribly, but Rutger Hauer is always great, and in this he acts circles around everyone else. Weirdly watchable.

I saw someone say that you should listen to audiobooks on 1X speed because that’s how the performance was meant to be listened to. I tried and nope. It’s too slow. 1.75x feels right.

It seems that a lot of people don’t actually know what a prologue is meant to do. It’s meant to tease the story, the characters, it’s meant to be an important part of the story, it’s not meant to be an info dump.

The editing process is my favourite bit of writing a book. Right up until my editor asks a question that makes me stare at the screen because I hadn’t considered something that makes my brain hurt.

The Wrecking Crew on Amazon Prime. A by the numbers action film with a forgettable story and cheap cgi. However, it’s clear that the actors are having a great time and they make the film into some good, silly fun (also always appreciate an Oldboy corridor fight).

Finished Resident Evil: Requiem. Phenomenal game. Half survival horror, half the most badass videogame in years. Cool story, great characters. Pure awesome.

Resident Evil: Requiem is superb. The pairing of Grace and her slow, methodical, and occasionally terrifying parts, with Leon’s kicking the hell out of everything that moves, is brilliant.

One of my favourite things about my job is that I get to see my book covers before they’re revealed to the world. I’m now 3 covers ahead of what has been revealed.

Dear authors, I can’t stress how important this is: You NEVER pay for someone to publish your book. That is called a scam. Stop falling for it.

If someone writes a book you really like, tell them. Leave a rating, leave a review, post about it on social media, email the author. However you do it, it really matters. Authors always appreciate it.

If social media has taught me one thing, it’s that you can’t educate people who refuse to be educated.

I find the initial writing of a book to be pretty straight-forward, if not always easy. That first developmental edit is a lot more taxing and mentally exhausting.

As per usual I feel a bit sad when an Olympics comes to an end. Both the winter and summer versions are probably my most enjoyed sporting events.

Predator Badlands is wonderful fun. Predator has always been a good franchise, but it feels like it’s taken a real step up since Prey.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Ana de Armas was great and some of the action was superb (and it’s always nice to see Keanu as John), but it dragged in parts and could have done with being tighter paced.

It’s a wonderful thing to have a really good nearby Chinese takeaway.
