Clearly a bad performance, but I think Slot will tell the players there's an element of bad luck. Penalty melee aside, I can't recall them conceding a big chance. Ricochet, deflection, worldie for the goals. Deserved to lose, but not by this margin

This is a good result for Arsenal. There are too many red flags in City's losses for me to think they can win it. Liverpool's emphasis will be shifting towards the UCL before long

Konate lacks the judgement/composure to be one of the very best CBs. He's probably an 8/10 but makes too many mistakes to be rated any higher.

Gary Neville is so dramatic. Liverpool haven't been as assertive as I expected but it's City away and they should have been level before conceding a deflected goal

Atmosphere inside Anfield was brilliant tonight. From the start I got the sense that the crowd weren't going to let the team lose. Supporters are far more impactful when you're struggling than when you're winning

I oddly enjoyed Mac Allister's scrap with Onana. Liverpool had an edge about them in that game that's been missing for too much of the season

That should be the starting XI for the moment. I'd ideally like more signings in there, but it's no coincidence Liverpool looked better with 10 of their title winners + their best performing addition

In addition to the systemic issues, Liverpool have had several players out of form. But that was by far the best Salah has looked in general play and also an improvement from Mac Allister

That was the Conor Bradley I expect to see. Tenacious but not making stupid fouls. He was my MOTM tonight. Generally speaking, Liverpool showed how much they cared

Still early, but the Bucks are so much more enjoyable to watch this season. It's not just because they're winning either. They're finally embracing the fundamentals of the modern NBA and playing like they have something to prove

I agree with this. I'll judge this team selection after the game at the weekend. Even winning the League Cup can't save a bad season - it should be a bonus for a good season. Maybe he should have put some big players on the bench, but seems he wants maximum training time.

Wonder if Rangers and particularly Celtic are just doomed to fail. Winning the league is just an expectation, and they just don't have the resources to compete consistenly in Europe. Granted they should be doing better in those competitions, but what's the endgame

Solid opener for the Bucks. Slow start to the third like last year but they just about kept control. A lot of the fundamentals looked better than they did last season, although you can't read too much into the first game against a weak team. Nice balance to the scoring

Szoboszlai said there'd be a reaction and there finally was. Pressing was the best it's been all season, as was the attacking fluency. Fantastic to see Wirtz getting two assists. Still looked too open in the first half and they were out of form as well, but overriding feeling is relief.

Leclerc is the driver of the day here, hands down

At least the title fight seems to be heading for a dramatic ending, because this has been yet another tough watch

A track limits strike in a wheel-to-wheel battle just seems silly

I can't believe Liverpool have lost that game. They created loads of great chances but they're far too fragile (summed up by the set-piece defending) and they keep getting pulled into knife-edge games against teams they should be far better than.

Isak and Gakpo chances aside, a worrying watch. Liverpool getting pulled apart defensively and once again looking too frantic in their attacking play. Even if they turn it around from here, they shouldn't need 45 mins after the intnl break in a derby to reset

Was relieved to hear Slot mention in the press conference that Liverpool need to defend crosses better. One of the things that's frustrated me so far is that the full-backs/midfielders seem oddly reluctant to close players down out wide

There's obviously a lot going on with Liverpool now and it's not easy to put your finger on the biggest problem. As for last night, I've seen that away game in Europe before. Opponent feels agonisingly there for the taking but you're just too scrappy to take advantage

Not sure when Mamardashvili is expecting to get into this team by the way. Alisson is still the best goalkeeper in the world and there's nobody particularly close

Anyway, the circumstances are a gut punch, but Palace will take points off another top teams this season, and 15 points from those opening six fixtures is still a good return. It's going to be a close title race this year

That's a game you can lose - Palace are a very good team and it's hard to say they don't deserve it. My concern is that Liverpool are conceding some really soft goals and leaving themselves way too open at times

That's a real sickener because I would have taken the point there. A draw would have seemed like a decent result at kick-off as well. But when Liverpool were scoring late winners every week you had a feeling it was going to come back around at some point.

I understand that Palace are extremely difficult to break down, but Liverpool are making their life much easier with some really basic moments of sloppiness

That half was a great advert for Marc Guehi, not so much because of how he's playing, but because it was pretty disastrous for Konate. There's no excuse for him to be bullied by Mateta, and he couldn't redeem himself by scoring that great chance. Having no real competition could hurt LFC

Four of the best saves you'll see all season there, unfortunately three of them coming from Liverpool's goalkeeper. Basically have to be content only being 1-0 down

I've rarely seen a player pull off as many one-man counters as Doku has in this game

Definitely a big missed opportunity for Norris. Even if he could have got P5 it would have felt much better. Stunned by Piastri's errors though, and wonder if that's the last of them. Threatened to be a classic race, ended up probably as a 6/10 after lap one. At least we had a surprise podium

I really like how tenacious Frimpong is when he defends, compensates for his lack of height and bulk

The past couple of games suggest Gravenberch could be even better this season. There are moments where he looks so good it's laughable

Happy with that debut for Isak. No big chance, but his link play got better and better. A demonstration of what he'll bring to the attack aside from his goals

Some signs that the new attack is starting to gel even if it's still very early in the process. Wirtz in particular will benefit from a better understanding his teammates' runs and he's still not mishitting some of his passes, but that was his best showing so far.

Statistically, a better Liverpool performance. Atletico barely had a clearcut chance, LFC should have scored more and won comfortably. But you have to put away an out-of-form team when you go 2-0 up in six mins. And it felt a little too easy for Atleti to reach the penalty area.
