In the fall of 1985, I wrote to every woman astronaut asking for contributions for scrapbooks I was creating for my niece and daughter. OTD in 1986 Judy Resnik wrote this note for my niece. Ten days after writing it she was killed aboard Challenger. I’ll never forget her kindness.

OTD 47 years ago a new breed of NASA Astronauts was announced. The first of them flew in 1983 and the last (Steve Hawley) flew in 1999. I’m grateful to say some became friends and all of them generously provided inspiration.

Congratulations to Team Blue on the successful first launch of their New Glenn rocket. While the first stage was not recovered the second stage safely delivered the payload to orbit.

OTD in 1979 two hearts became one. Forty-six years ago we promised to love and cherish, for better or worse , in sickness and in health. I can honestly say that every good thing that has happened since then is because of this beautiful, intelligent, wonderful woman with me in this photo.

56 years ago this morning the crew of Apollo 8 returned safely to Earth. Then as today the effort to explore space provided hope and inspiration.

As the dawn breaks on this Christmas Day, I hope you are as happy as Scrooge to learn the spirits accomplished it all in one night. May you keep Christmas in your heart all year and may all your wishes come true.

In 2014 the ISS Expedition 42 crew celebrated Christmas in orbit. Using their mission patch as inspiration, I depict two astronauts performing an EVA stringing lights. Their National Flag colors compose the contrail and the text is in Russian, English and Italian.

They saved 1968.

Those of us who remember that magical Christmas Eve 56 years ago and the postage stamp released the next year. The patch depicts Apollo 8 in lunar orbit as the Earth rises above the horizon. APOLLO has a gold L to illustrate the Roman Numeral 50. The 8 is illustrated as in the mission patch.

My annual wish. Although this year it seems far away. May your holiday, whichever one you celebrate be filled with love, hope and Peace!
