The diploma of Istanbul metropolitan municipality mayor and Turkey's presidential candidate Ekrem Imamoglu was revoked on march 18, sparking public outrage.

On the morning of march 19, Imamoglu was taken into custody on corruption and terrorism charges related to the Istanbul metropolitan municipality. After his detention, the court ruled in favor of his arrest on corruption charges on march 23

ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN JUST SIX DAYS ‼️ His incident highlights the double standards in turkey's legal system, the disproportionate use of force by security forces and serious human rights violations.

With Imamoglu's arrest, the public could no longer stand the repression and took to the streets as pro-democracy activists mobilized across the country, the police responded with brutal, violent interventions.

While the young Turkish people were shouting "right, law, justice", the police intervened with pepper spray, rubber bullets, water cannons and kicks as if the young people are not citizens of this country but they are terrorists.

The students who have asthma begged the police not to use pepper spray, but the police dragged them to the ground and used pepper spray. The people who took part in the actions were beaten and detained and the lawyers weren't allowed to enter the police station.

One of the women who was detained told that she was pulled by her hair and dragged on the floor by a policeman, he took her back of an ambulance to put handcuffs by saying that he won’t beat her.

There he asked her “do you have breasts?” and touched them at that moment she urinated as a result of that harassment. She was forced by the policewomen not to make a complaint about the things happened and that policeman.

Some women, who went in detention have been seen being tortured during strip searches by the cops, but as usual, while having proof in our hands, the authorities deny the allegations and continue to brainwash people, giving wrong news to those who only watch television once again.

Some young people, who only wanted their democracy and rights, were put in a coma by unbalanced police violence and some were even shot in the eye with rubber bullets by the police of their own country.
