Not completely personal post, but yet somehow anyways (since I love
#quantum
,
#compchem
and
#quantumcomputing
): We (i.e. the company I work for: Kvantify) show in an upcoming webinar hosted by IQM how quantum computers are easily accessible for chemical calculations:

Gave a talk in Copenhagen yesterday at a small scientific conference on quantum computing with great attendees. It was an interesting experience after so many years out of touch with "my field". Hope to deepen the interaction in the future. Below is the part of the presentation I am most proud of:

After a very long time it is finally peer reviewed and out:
pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10....
The preprint (
arxiv.org/abs/2408.11091
) is from last August and (v1) not that different from the published version. For some reason I always get content-fatigue when it comes to the final touches.

Politics is a strange thing - and I feel I am missing a basic nugget of education here. Why is it that on a personal level it mostly does not matter where people come from and we get along just fine - but as soon as we start building and thinking in groups (tribes, countries etc) it turns to 💩

Are any of the
#SC24
folks considering going to
#ISC25
? Last year was my first time at SC and it was fantastic. I am currently preparing a proposal for a BoF around
#quantumcomputing
to ISC and it would be great to connect with the
#HPC
community in Hamburg again.

Is there anyone working on an AI to replace CEOs? Many modern LLMs would probably do a decent job, given enough context. However, I imagine they would be hard to sell :D

For some reason Don Jr.s visit to
#greenland
has really kept me busy (and frankly up at night). There is so much wrong with it - I could go on ranting, but what really annoys me is that the "arrogant USA" has returned to the world stage - on steroids. But I guess that is what "America fist" means

I am currently collecting applications of

, but anything counts really:)

In
#compchem
applications of
#quantumcomputing
, IBM is currently using QSD (quantum sample diagonalization) as their workhorse. In some sense this is just encoding a wave function and then observing the frequency distribution afterwards. Why is that interesting?

I am sometimes amazed by the diversity of human activity. For instance one moment you are writing and analyzing

#compchem

people - do you have any good references for where quantum chemistry actually makes a big difference or could make a big difference in the drug discovery process? To my understanding - often, the sampling error is much bigger than the electronic error when using FFs.

Going soon to my last session of
#SC24
: "Hilbert's Problems for HPC". While perhaps more speculative than other sessions I am really looking forward to this as it provides perspective and marks the end of a great week in Atlanta. Thank you very much

team for making this happen.

- well we stood in (the veeery long) line just to be told that we needed badges to get in. Anyways, got a really good dinner at Dos Bocas just around the corner. Tomorrow we will get those badges!

Finally closed down my X account - I don't know why it took me so long, probably was reluctant for the fear of missing out. So I took Bluesky's celebration of the 10e6s user as a reason to disconnect from X.
