Rory McIlroy turned embarrassment into brilliance with a late birdie blitz after an air swing nearly cost him the cut at the Australian Open. Rory McIlroyâs air swing on the 14th hole nearly cost him a place in the Australian Open weekend field. Attempting a tricky recovery from the tea trees, he completely missed the ball, leading to a bogey and dropping him outside the cut line. âI needed to play those last four holes the way I did,â McIlroy said after the round. And he delivered. The Northern Irishman birdied three of his last four holes, including a clutch finish on 18, to sign for a 68 and move to two-underâcomfortably inside the cut.

Previewing Tasmaniaâs newest golfing gem, 7 Mile Beach, ahead of its official openingâand itâs every bit as spectacular as youâve heard. Tee Time for a Seal? Barnbougle Dunes Gets a Wild Visitor
A curious seal wandered across the dunes and onto the first tee at Barnbougle Dunes, giving golfers a surprise and showcasing the wild beauty of Tasmaniaâs iconic coastal course. Golfers at Barnbougle Dunes were treated to a surprise visitor recentlyâa seal that appeared to be making its way toward the first tee, just in front of the cottages and practice putting green. Captured in a video shared by the Barnbougle team on Instagram, the seal seemed to be sizing up the fairway, perhaps looking for a playing partner. While Barnbougleâs rugged coastal setting along Tasmaniaâs Bass Strait is no stranger to wildlife, this particular seal had to cross a good five-minute stretch of dunes to reach the course.

LIV Golfâs Big Shift: 72 Holes in 2026 â What It Means for Adelaide, OWGR, and the Tourâs Identity
LIV Golf is ditching its 54-hole identity for a full 72-hole format in 2026âa move that could reshape its future, Adelaideâs biggest golf party, and the battle for world ranking points. LIV Golf has confirmed a seismic change to its format: starting in 2026, all tournaments will be contested over 72 holes across four days, abandoning the 54-hole structure that was central to its identity since launch in 2022. The move aligns LIV with the traditional setup of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, and is widely seen as a strategic play to secure Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, a critical step for players seeking entry into golfâs four majors.

Stretching St Andrews: A Last Stand Against the Long Ball
The Old Course at St Andrews, golfâs most iconic venue, is undergoing a series of subtle but significant changes ahead of the 2027 Open Championship. The R&A and St Andrews Links Trust have commissioned renowned architects Mackenzie & Ebert to lengthen six holes, reposition bunkers, and restore historic playing routes â all in an effort to combat the ever-increasing distances professional golfers are achieving off the tee. Among the updates: the par-5 5th will stretch to 605 yards, the famous Eden hole (11th) will be pushed back to 195 yards, and the strategic challenge of the 16th will be revived by reclaiming fairway and adding bunkers where rough once lay.

When we think of golf, itâs easy to picture pristine fairways, pro tournaments, and high-tech gear.
