As all parents will know, it's a rare writer who doesn't start to grate when the same story is read for the sixth night in a row... But Ahlberg never staled.

Terribly sad to hear of the death of Allan Ahlberg, one of the greatest writers for children of our age; I grew up with Burglar Bill, Funnybones, Cops and Robbers, Happy Families and so many more; as a parent I have discovered what a joy they are to read, even when requested night after night.

This is La Hougue Bie on the island of Jersey, one of the ten oldest human sites in the world. It’s a Neolithic passage tomb, and has a 12th century church on the mound above. At summer equinox, the passage is lit by the sun. Amazing to go inside and know people were there 4,000 years ago ❤️

The first image taken on the surface of another planet. Ever. This is the surface of Venus, taken on 20 October 1975 by the Soviet Venera 9 lander. The top frame is the raw 6-bit data, the bottom frame the restored version by Don Mitchell. The lander was at 475°C and 92 bars pressure.
