had to go check and see if that post was real and the banal herbal medslop ad below it really gives the genocidal nuclear holocaust threat an unexpected piquancy

Great domestic opening (third best for A24 after Civil War and Marty Supreme) but really impressive international start too, considering it wasn't even a complete worldwide rollout and has several markets left to open in

Pretty fun jumping back into The Pitt in the middle of a 24 rewatch (season 4), such day and night approaches to the real time concept that really make me more deeply appreciate both the nuanced, slow-burn approach of the former and the brazen silliness of the latter.

Post-COVID, studios kept forgetting that families would want to see new movies in theaters in between Christmas and Easter; this year they remembered, and we already have two original animated films above $100M.

Insane hold, the only $80M+ openers to have better drops are Wicked, Top Gun: Maverick, and Avatar: Fire and Ash - and two of those had holiday second weekends to buoy their drops.

Had an analog horror moment putting an unmarked cassette tape from my family's old collection in my player and just hearing creature sounds and screaming for like a full minute. Realized upon hearing Sam Neill yelling that it was just the T-rex attack scene from Jurassic Park.

Fascinated by how suddenly the "joke-a-minute spoof" sub-genre has returned between the new Naked Gun, new Scary Movie, Fackham Hall, and now this.

Curious how A24 is feeling about TMZ going on an active "spoil the big twist" campaign against their big spring tentpole. Maybe a bit of a silver lining as it'll deter people from seeing it that would have been apoplectic at said twist and tanked word-of-mouth.

Will never understand why so many people have opinions about whether or not a pop star can ""handle"" fame and think it is of any importance to them.

Honestly, one of the most impressive openings this decade. Almost all movies to open this high recently have been direct sequels or based on well-established properties from the 20th century; an adaptation of a 5-year-old stand-alone novel opening this high is a real throwback.

The protagonist of Project Hail Mary is a left-brained elder millennial teaching middle schoolers, him having a Reddit sense of humor is maybe the most realistic part of the movie.

Whenever I drove with my dad as a kid he would listen to music stations but always switched over to 780AM at the top of the hour to listen to CBS’s top news stories. Sad end-of-an-era shit from idiots that proudly don’t know what they are doing.

This whole “release two seconds of the trailer at a time” gimmick feels like a throwback to the days of slowly downloading QuickTime trailers on the Apple Trailers website while on dialup, excitedly watching the next three seconds of the video that took five minutes to load.

Quiet vibe shift occurring in the Best Picture race: after a 16 year streak from No Country for Old Men to Everything Everywhere All at Once of the winner premiering at a film festival, two of the last three winners (Oppenheimer, One Battle) have skipped the festival circuit entirely.
