Mostly dumb movie stuff, some dumb TV stuff too

Seeing this the same morning that WBD has decided to reconsider the Paramount bid is stomach-churning.

The John Wick series is so effective because it fully embodies the three major tenets of dumb guy fantasy: 1. being able to kick anyone’s ass, 2. living by a code of honor, and 3. paying for things with gold coins

US Olympic Curling Team member speaks out against ICE: "I'm proud to represent Team USA. But we'd be remiss if we didn't mention what's going on in Minnesota and what a tough time it's been. What's happening is wrong. There's no shades of gray."

Looking at Google Trends, Disclosure Day easily had the biggest post-ad spike of any movie tonight, followed by Scream 7 and then Cliff Booth (the latter is especially impressive since the ad didn't even have the title of the movie).

The amazing audience scores for Melania don't seem to be translating much to actual word-of-mouth, judging from the -67% second weekend drop.

Went to rewatch the “Manchild” number from The Muppet Show and ended up just rewatching the whole episode. Not even a big Muppets guy but it’s an incredibly fun 33 minutes of television. I also appreciated the modesty of the laugh track.

Was brainstorming what other celebrities could guest star on the new Muppet Show, and I think a Martin Scorsese guest appearance could be a load of fun. From his TikToks and The Studio episode all the way back to that AmEx commercial and Shark, he clearly has fun getting a little silly now and then.

Jeff Bezos destroyed the Washington Post because he couldn't admit that he didn't know how to run a newspaper, and also because he felt entitled to turn it into his personal plaything. Both are functions of his ego, his greed, his heedlessness, and his insecurity. What a dark day.

Honestly this kinda swings the movie back to under-performance since Amazon was estimating an $8M weekend as of yesterday, only for the movie to drop -21% on Saturday - and that was without any Thursday previews inflating its Friday number.

After over two months in theaters, Zootopia 2 is now only $16.1M away from overtaking A Minecraft Movie as the #1 movie of 2025 in America. It's had amazing legs so far, but with direct family competition from GOAT in two weeks it's gonna be close.

I’m guessing the Melania movie will end up doing well enough for a “documentary” (albeit not one with a $40M budget) but it will also probably end up getting out-opened this weekend by a YouTuber’s self-distributed horror movie so that should be fun at least

Watched the IL US Senate debate and finally researching the candidates. WTF, Raja. On June 9, 2025 while ICE abuses in LA led to massive protests, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) bucked his party to vote to thank ICE "for protecting the homeland." My wife already knew about this one, I didn't.
