After 43 days, the longest government shutdown in history ended last night after Congress passed a bill that was signed into law by the President. Extensions to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which help American families afford health care coverage, were not included in this package.

Health care is a human right, and handing over personal data to ICE puts everyone’s access to care at risk. All communities must be able to seek and receive health care free from fear of potential detention and deportation—and with the confidence that their private data is protected.

Today, the House passed the budget reconciliation bill by a 218-214 vote. The bill drastically increases funding for deportations while slashing funding for Medicaid, SNAP, and other critical programs that provide for peoples’ basic needs.
